To address that question: If it's the person I'm thinking of, he won a national Today Show competition a couple of years ago to be "the next Martha Stewart." (It was when Martha was having her troubles and nobody realized that the next Martha Stewart was going to be...Martha Stewart.) The announced prize for winning the competition was employment by NBC in the "helpful homemaker" role. Since Channel 5 is an NBC owned-and-operated station (not just an affiliate), it qualifies as "NBC." So Channel 5 may be fulfilling a contractual obligation, but not enthusiastically.
This is speculation. But informed speculation.
