Does anyone watch Channel 5 on Weds around 7:45 AM? Every Weds. they have this guy on trying to do some sort of cooking thing. I really don't intend to be mean, but I just have a hard time watching this guy. His cooking mainly consists of throwing premeasured ingredients into some sort of container....with a lot of fumbling. I don't think I've ever seen him get his blender to work. (One time it wasn't plugged in.) In one segment built a lemonade stand. Another time it was a bean bag game. Today he did a segment on knives. The last knife he demoed he called a "chopper." No offense, but it seems pretty substandard. Just my opinion.

Amen, Liz. Yesterday, he made a no-cook snack mix by mixing canned chow mein noodles with oregano and chocolate pieces. You can't even use the mole excuse on that one. (Mo-lay, not the little furry creatures).

They also run his segments on weekend morning broadcasts. I agree with your complaints. It seems like they always rush through the segment which begs the question of why don't they increase the segment length or get rid of it altogether? He slams through the "cooking" demos so fast, I can't imaging anyone getting much use out of them.

To address that question: If it's the person I'm thinking of, he won a national Today Show competition a couple of years ago to be "the next Martha Stewart." (It was when Martha was having her troubles and nobody realized that the next Martha Stewart was going to be...Martha Stewart.) The announced prize for winning the competition was employment by NBC in the "helpful homemaker" role. Since Channel 5 is an NBC owned-and-operated station (not just an affiliate), it qualifies as "NBC." So Channel 5 may be fulfilling a contractual obligation, but not enthusiastically.

This is speculation. But informed speculation.

I am constantly amazed at the amount of information you all have! Wayne seems to be well liked by the anchors of the AM news (maybe because he brings them food), but I can't imagine the shows producers wanting to keep him on any longer than they would have to. So this leads to the obvious question...what do you think they should replace him with? Another cooking segment? How about a LTH report?
