The MIL, newly nested in Oak Park, wanted us to come over tonight and order pizza. I looked through my
restaurant.com certificates, and found one for Tony’s Pizzeria & Deli in Elmwood Park. Dine-in only. But seemed worth it to save 10 bucks.
This is one of those neighborhood places that wants to please everyone. Burgers, wraps, “grinders,” soft-serve ice cream, pizza. Add a gyros spit and some fried chicken and they’d have it all. We stuck with pizza. They describe it as “New York Style Thin Crust.” I’ve never had a pizza in New York, but I will say that although the crust was quite thin, with some crunch to it, it was neither a cracker crust nor foldable so, much as I liked it, I’m not going to offer it up to the
loveable lunatics out there.
Bill and his Mother had a perfectly adequate pepperoni, mushroom, black olive. Nice crust. Not too much sauce. Not an excessive amount of cheese. Fresh mushrooms. I’d be happy to make it my regular delivery pizza.
I had the much-better-than-adequate Tony’s White Pizza

Mozzarella and feta, tomato, spinach, lots of garlic, a little olive oil. Excellent.
The current owners came in last September. Mom, dad, daughter. They’ve got a stack of board games you can play while you wait for your pizza. Obviously trying hard. As that strip yuppies itself along (they’re right next door to Massa), I don’t know if they’ll find a niche. But in the meantime, give the pizza a try.
