Bakerys

There was a French bakery 5-6 yrs. ago, approx 1700 N. Clyborne, in a small center on the west side of the street. Same center as Pier One.
Great pasteries. One of the best was their cigars.
Any ideas.

no, I think he's referring to a bakery that was owned by a Haitian French family. It was in the strip mall further south, maybe even in the same one that now has a Panera in it. Not sure. But it was on the northwestern corner of the lot. Is this what you're thinking of?

It was Pain au Chocolat and it was a fantastic bakery with a Paris trained pastry chef. I cried when it closed. They had the best croissants--both sweet and savory--in the city.

Real baguettes they do not make but in that general area, the best producer of excellent bread of various sorts (including the Italian take on 'French bread'*) is D'Amato's on Grand at the corner of May, next door to Bari.
