Although my first reaction (the same as everybody's) is that this is a harbinger of some horrible Brave New World, the more I think about it the more I think that it (so long as the food coming out of the kitchen is good) could be OK.

I guess the truth is that it is inferior to being served by a useful, well-informed, friendly, competent human, but superior to being served by a useless, ill-informed, hostile, incompetent human.

I dunno. It seems like there's lots of room for incompetent humans there. The kitchen can still get your order wrong. The runner can still bring you the wrong dish. Whoever's responsible for responding to the mechanized request for more water can still ignore you.

NYC did. In the East Village. It's called Bamn!. I was there last month out of curiosity, but it's not a place I'd go out of my way for if I worked, say, in Midtown.
