25 E Monroe, great call! After 12 years working down here, it gets hard to find something new, I did not know about this cafeteria.
S.O. opted for the turkey which was indeed fresh sliced and still warm, the multi grain bread was nice and soft ( I prefer a soft bread sandwich when it is stacked high to make sinking my teeth into easier). Toppings were standard yellow mustard, mayo, lettuce, nice thin sliced red onions, and tomato. I however opted for the roast beef which was wonderful with the same bread and toppings. It had a nice slow cooked taste to it, still steaming as he sliced away. The sandwich came with a side of potato wedge/chunks, I believe they were fried based on nice crunchy outer but soft on the inside with some nice salty seasoning, and a side of rotini pasta salad with a nice vinaigrette and chunks of zucchini mixed in.
Similar environment to Chase, darker and seemed to not be as known given we were there right at 12:30 and I did not feel it to be all that crowded. The Mexican options here looked tastier (next time), the simmering chicken and steak looked to be in some sort of red looking sauce with onions and peppers. Tortillas being warmed on the grill as well.
And the buffet with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, pastas salads, and fried chicken, fried catfish, and other "standard fare" options is a nice touch. Standard burger grill, asian stir fry and sushi stations as well.
Extra touch, self serve ketchup, mustard, mayo pumps (I hate packets!) and an assortment of hot sauces to take to your table including Frank's, Louisiana, Tabasco and a couple others.
All in all a great Loop lunch option.
