The misses has requested a Turkey sliced off the bird sandwich for lunch today. I am at Jackson and Lasalle and my Haife Cafe (sp?) closed. Anywhere else do this nearby?

Yes it is, but they have great turkey and roast beef carvings for sandwiches or with sides. It's across from the Palmer House Hiilton.

It's cafeteria style. It's similar to the food court type thing at the bottom of the Chase building. Good for sandwiches and soup.

One more tip, I like the whole grain bread, but they don't give it to you if don't ask for it.

25 E Monroe, great call! After 12 years working down here, it gets hard to find something new, I did not know about this cafeteria.

S.O. opted for the turkey which was indeed fresh sliced and still warm, the multi grain bread was nice and soft ( I prefer a soft bread sandwich when it is stacked high to make sinking my teeth into easier). Toppings were standard yellow mustard, mayo, lettuce, nice thin sliced red onions, and tomato. I however opted for the roast beef which was wonderful with the same bread and toppings. It had a nice slow cooked taste to it, still steaming as he sliced away. The sandwich came with a side of potato wedge/chunks, I believe they were fried based on nice crunchy outer but soft on the inside with some nice salty seasoning, and a side of rotini pasta salad with a nice vinaigrette and chunks of zucchini mixed in.

Similar environment to Chase, darker and seemed to not be as known given we were there right at 12:30 and I did not feel it to be all that crowded. The Mexican options here looked tastier (next time), the simmering chicken and steak looked to be in some sort of red looking sauce with onions and peppers. Tortillas being warmed on the grill as well.

And the buffet with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, pastas salads, and fried chicken, fried catfish, and other "standard fare" options is a nice touch. Standard burger grill, asian stir fry and sushi stations as well.

Extra touch, self serve ketchup, mustard, mayo pumps (I hate packets!) and an assortment of hot sauces to take to your table including Frank's, Louisiana, Tabasco and a couple others.

All in all a great Loop lunch option.

Glad you liked it, I am assuming you mean 55 E. Monroe. They also serve a pretty good fresh breakfast.

Under 55 (the cafeteria at 55 E. Monroe) has been a long time go to lunch spot of mine, and the Market Carvery (where the sandwiches come from) has always been my favorite station there. The roast beef, turkey, and ham and all excellent (I tend to favor the pretzel roll). They also have brisket which can be hit or miss, bit when it's good, it's good. The Mexican options are just OK, but it is worth noting that if you make a specific request, they do have cilantro and onions available as toppings for tacos. Shockingly, I have found the sushi there to be pretty good (relatively speaking).

The summer is the best time to get in and out of Under 55 quickly. I believe it serves as a de facto cafeteria for the School of the Art Institute. During the school year, it can get pretty crowded.

They moved - new location at Wells & Lake, on the south east corner by the El entrance. I had very tasty falafel sandwich there last week.

Thank God Haifa Cafe is not closed. Best Turkey sandwich i've ever had. They even opened one in downtown Indianpolis while I worked there.

Thanks for letting me know they're still alive and well. I've been craving that wet bird sammich for some time now. :P

Well it's probably too late, but there is a Jaffa on the upper floor of the Clark/Lake Food Court. They have sliced turkey sandwiches on pita, bun, or regular bread, plus various middle eastern eats.
    "You should eat!"

So I just tried the Jaffa Bagel (Nordstrom mall location) turkey sandwich yesterday and all I can say is wow! This is exactly how freshly roasted turkey should taste.

They serve chunks, not slices, but they offer white and/or dark meat. The turkey is kept in hot pans in juice, which by the taste of the turkey seemed to be the pan juices from the whole roasted turkey -- yes, they roast the whole turkey. The turkey was also very nicely seasoned.

While I did not like the crappy bread on which the turkey was served, at least it was doughy enough to soak up the turkey juices. I stared at the fools in the Potbelly line wondering whether anyone would have stayed in that line if they knew how good the Jaffa turkey sandwich was. I can't wait for my next visit.

Thanks for letting me know they're still alive and well. I've been craving that wet bird sammich for some time now.

They are alive & very well & incredibly nice there. I ran in to pick up a falafel sandwich before hopping on the El & they kindly packed up the Jerusalem salad separately in a tub so the pita wouldn't get soggy before I got to my office & had time to eat. I've never had the turkey there, but have to try this next time.
