Did you ever listened to Mancow's show (when it was on in Chicago?)

Yes, but when he's not performing, he's actually a pretty normal guy. Completely different than the character he plays on the radio.

I was on Mancow once. Not my favorite radio experience, and I find it very unlikely it sold a single book. Still, the guy was good at what he did.

What I remember from his show (besides the rampant misogyny)
was how he seemed so fake yet professed how REAL he was....

Feel free to think of him differently but in my mind he's a total tool
and will not add a positive vibe (or any real vibe) to the Chicago show.
He's an import to begin with....

Think back to the Cleveland show.... Would some fly-by-night DJ have been a better host than Ruhlman?

A good friend for many years had his environmental consulting firm's office in the same building as Mancow's studio. Getting up there meant it was either the rickety stairs or the cramped, Albanian-built elevator and Mancow was upstairs from my pal's offices. The entire place was an unmitigated dump, of course; apparently just the ticket for Mancow and for somebody running an entirely back-office operation like an environmental consulting firm. But, of course, Mancow was not running a back office; he brought in A-list to D-List guests and celebs daily, leading to moments of elevator Zen that were unprecedented. Plenty of strippers, sure; an everyday experience. But also Ron Jeremy and, I believe, an Illinois governor (Senator, Supreme Court judge?) on the same day, in the same elevator, as my friend just tried to ignore them and get to work. (By the way, for those who've been fans of Harry's Hot Dogs, the building we're talking about is on that same block of Franklin.) My information is that Mancow was always a perfect gentleman and model tenant.

Yes, Tony interviewed Burt and Louisa on camera for what seemed to be about 30 minutes. I guess there are no guarantees in life (or television) but it does seem likely that he will be appearing in the episode.

Too bad that the vast majority of cable viewers in Chicago will never see it - ComCast doesn't carry the Travel Channel in most of its viewing areas, including metro Chicago. You can get snippets of "No Reservations" via the On Demand feature, but it's not worth the time or bother.

Are you sure about this? I have Comcast and get Travel Channel on channel 62; have for years.

Edit to add: Checked comcast's website and I think you're right. Saw some ads that included Travel Channel but it doesn't seem to be on the actual channel roster. In fact, channel 62 is eerily absent from the roster.

Do you get Travel Channel in HD? On DirecTV they only offer the SD version of the channel for some unknown reason.

We noticed that as well, it's not on our roster - but we get it, on Channel 62. If you have Comcast, we've discovered, it's worth occasionally resetting your channels and having your TV do an "autosearch."

We have Comcast and we do get the Travel Channel, it's 62 on ours as well. We've gotten it for many years but I think I'd take the suggestion of maybe trying to rescan your channels to see if it'll pop up.

As far as Mancow goes, for what it's worth I'm sure he's a lovely person away from his 'character' on his radio show but I think there are many stronger candidates of someone from Chicago that you could pick to feature on the show that would represent things about the City, it's food and culture, a bit better.

That being said I don't think that featuring Mancow on his show should keep anyone away from the episode. It's not that tragic of a situation.

The beautiful thing about Burt is that he can't NOT be himself. Few of us can achieve that authenticity on a consistent basis. Pizza aside, Burt is an inspiration.

FWIW, I don't care who TB is buddies with I just think that Mancow Muller was a poor choice for a host of a TV show that is looking to attract viewers. His demographic is a bit different than Tony's If you doubt that check out his website and see what MM is all about.

I'm guessing there' snot much overlap between Tony's and Mancow's audiences; on the show he'll probably come off as "just some Chicago guy." FWIW there was no Mancow at Burt's Sunday. I'm guessing he'll only be in a few segments.

Tony spent more time with Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper than showing local highlights and food.

The difference there is that the Nuge is very informative on wild game, hunting, dressing and eating your kill, and so on. Also, Alice Cooper is a restaurant owner (among other things) as well, so they're not completely out of left field.

I'm not sure what Mancow brings to the table - unless he's running a Mr. Beef somewhere that I'm not aware of.
