Great. This is shaping up to be a nice lunch. I talked to Kelly and she's looking forward for our group.

With the addition of the illustrious Dicksond, we are now at 6 people. Hopefully more will sign up, but in any event, what do the attendees think about adding one of Sun Wah's great fried chickens to our order? Does anyone besides me feel the need for more poultry?

Wish I could be there for this one. I'm sure it'll be great.

I've never had the chicken, and though I bet it is good, I can't imagine myself being drawn away from the duck. I'm fine with or without ordering it.

Having just returned from the Sun Wah Baby Pig Roast II, one of the first thing I want to do is make arrangements to eat there again. If there's still room, count me in. The pork was very, very tasty; I can't wait to try their duck. (We also had the fried chicken tonight, and if we happen to order some on Monday, I won't storm out in protest. It was juicy and delicious.)

RAB & Jazzfood, you are now listed in the count. We are up to 11 people. I just got off the phone with Kelly at Sun Wah and I have ordered a crispy fried chicken as well. I'm also going to add some garlic fried ribs.

Great! I was kinda in the same camp as Kennyz on the fried chicken issue, but the comments about the garlic fried ribs on Saturday's pig roast thread caught my attention. I'm very happy I'll get to try them!

Really looking forward to tomorrow--er--today, I guess.... Thanks, Steve!

If I lived just a little closer to Sun Wah, I might be there every day. Today's lunch was even better than expected. Just when I thought I couldn't be tempted to stray from the duck, I tasted those crispy, juicy, fatty, garlicky pork ribs. They're just about as addicting as the bird. Then came that fried chicken with the almost-blackened wings that were impossible to put down. Combine all that with excellent company telling great stories that might have given lunch an NC-17 rating, and you get one hell of a midday meal.

My thanks to everyone who came out on a Monday afternoon to provide enough ordering power to have, what was for me, a very memorable Beijing Olympic Duck lunch. Hopefully, all the other judges agree with me that Sun Wah scored solid 9's today, with a perfect 10 from the Russian judge.

ChgoMike and I were bemoaning the fact that Evanston doesn't have a Chinese restaurant that can hold a candle to Sun Wah (and between the two of us, I think we figured that we'd tried them all).... Sun Wah may not be every-day close, but thank goodness the drive is relatively short when you're in need of a delicious duck fix!

I'm so glad I decided to ditch my work responsibilities for the day (I knew in advance that not much would get done AFTER a Sun Wah lunch) and join today's panel of judges! I got to try some delicous new (to me) dishes, including the octopus whiskers and garlic fried ribs, and marvel at how the Beijing duck just seems to get better every time I go. Great food, great crowd! I'll have to go along with the Russian judge: Perfect 10s from me all the way around!

    Thanks again, Steve, for organizing!

With everyone around here raving and so excited about Sun Wah these days, I was afraid that there was just no way this simple little Chinese restaurant could live up to all of the hype. But I had to find out. So, I went to CrazyC's baby-pig adventure on Saturday, then returned to Sun Wah today for lunch with Stevez and crew.

Sun Wah blew me away. Especially today's lunch. The duck was amazing. The chicken, ribs, fried rice, and octopus whiskers were all excellent. Even the condiments were delicious. The price was ridiculous.

Thanks to everyone for turning me on to yet another Chicago highlight. I've been here less than 6 months, but I'm eating like a native. [edit: probably better than most, now that I think of it.]

    Steve,

You sure know your way around a duck, fried chicken, garlic ribs and octo whiskers too by the deliciousness of today's lunch. Food terrific, company and conversation better and Sun Wah value for flavor is off the charts.

    Enjoy,

Those garlic fried ribs may be the best pork product I have ever eaten. Strong words but for per bite mind blowingness, there are few rivals. I'm counting the days till I get them again.

Strong words indeed. Not sure if I can go that far, but there is indeed something incredibly seductive about them. It's not just the taste, but the textural sensation of biting into the super-crisp exterior and then getting a liquid explosion of hot, fatty pig juice bursting in your mouth. These should definitely be eaten just out of the fryer, piping hot as we got them today.

It was all splendid. From those amazing ribs to the salt and pepperish octopus and the duck was... well... it was truly all it was quacked up to be.

The meal was made all the better by Kelly's hospitality.

Thanks, Steve. Let's do it again before the Olympics return to Beijing, eh?

I'm glad to see that the quote made it up to the banner, as it's a dead-on accurate way to describe the porky deliciousness that was those fried rib bits.

I'm calling Sun Wah 1st thing in the morning. I can't go another week without my fix of garlic fried ribs. Planning on a 5-530 meal, hopefully it will be enough time.
