Has anyone tasted the new fair food sensation, Pig Lickers? It is crispy bacon coated in chocolate.

While I haven't had Vosages chocolate, I've heard it's quite good, and they make a bacon bar. If they're using decent chocolate and good bacon, I'd eat it.

It is quite good, not as good as the peanut butter, bacon and chocolate cookies at last year's picnic (whose were those? I can't find a recipe in the LTH Recipe index).

The bar has a very rich milk chocolate. I'm more of a dark chocolate fan, but I have to admit their very high quality milk chocolate worked well here. A bit of sea salt gives it almost a peanutty flavor, and the bacon a bit of chew.

David Hammond's. There was PB, bacon, and chili, but no chocolate that I can remember.

Just wait until Pie Lady shows up in this thread; I bet we'll get a drop-everything roadtrip report out of this.

I had hoped for and expected more bacon.

A friend of mine ended an 18 year streak of vegetarianism in order to try Pig Lickers at the Minnesota State Fair.

Last week, I attended the Oak Park beer & food event and the Marion Street cheese shop had bacon & chocolate during the VIP session. Very tasty.

Sorry, no report. I haven't seen these yet, as Pie Dude is a party-pooper when it comes to fairs and I feel odd going by myself. But I think I'll have to make an exception. Maybe they'll be at the Taste of Niles. I'm quite sorry I missed out on David Hammond's cookies.

Can you just dip regular old Oscar Mayer bacon or do you need some fancy thick-sliced applewood stuff?

I would assume any kind of bacon would work, it would just taste different. Especially thick cut bacon would have more of a presence than thinly sliced.

Now this is a hearsay comment -- but a dear friend of mine tried this at the Minnesota State Fair this past weekend. He very much liked the regular bacon on the stick but hated the choco covered bacon. He said the chocolate made the bacon rubbery. So....not a winner.

But again....i didn't taste it personally.

From what I've heard, the secret is in making the bacon crispy...then coating it with chocolate. That way....no rubbery bacon!

Well, apparently there is no taste of Niles. Probably because there's nothing to taste in Niles. I thought there was one once, but I guess it was the Taste of Sister Cities, which was in November 2006. How time flies. I guess we're not having one this year. Lousy Mayor Blase!

Well, apparently there is a Taste of Niles! It's at the White Eagle Banquets, Sunday 11/23 with "A tasting of food...provided by our finest local restaurants". Now's the time to bug all these finest local restaurants to bring Pig Lickers to the show.
