New take out BBQ place opened in the last month here in Maywood.

    Pizza.Que
    1020 S. 5th Ave.
    Maywood IL
    708-344-8600

It's just south of Madsion on the West side of the street. The owner had a place in Broadview at 13th and Roosevelt. The owner is also the pitmaster.

I was told they open the doors at 11am everyday.

Today I sampled the Mini Tip/Hot Link combo with my sauce on the side. It was 7 bucks. Excellent flavors, very large portions, more than I wanted to eat for lunch. The hotlink was a 7 on a 1-10 scale. Tips I give an 7.5. Nice carmelizing on the outside, tender, with low grizzle factor. Nothing on the menu is over 9.75

If I lived within 3 miles of here it would be worth the drive.

Their current menu doesn't have slabs at this point. It's tips and link from the pit. Fish, chicken, burgers, pizza (whihc looked good) and turkey burger. They do have fried okra too.

The pitmaster told me sides are coming soon. Greens, rice, etc.. and tater pies.

Oh man. I just realized today is a Friday in Lent. I thought it was Thursday. Jeeze.

I saw the smoke coming outta the roof, saw it was open and just pulled over.

    :(

Is this place related to this place?

I'd bet that it isn't. Q's in Hillside would seem like an Italian might possibly own it. This Maywood place is owned and operated by a pitmaster who is black.

But hey, anything could be possible.

I'm local. I give it a shot next week.

As far as local goes I am awful fond of Smokin' M's Tips...

Wonder if he might make a BBQ pizza? Wonder what that would taste like.

Thanks for telling me about Smokin' M's in Forest Park. I wasn't aware of it. I've been away from the area and living up over by here on the NW side of the city but will be spending more time in Maywood in the coming year.

Well, not with bbq sauce, but :-)

Iam pretty regular at Uncle John's on the southside, for IMHO the best tips-and-links in the city. The portions are huge, and there are often leftovers. Which work just fine - pop em in the oven for a bit and theyre excellent, of course.

But also, just as often, I'll make my own home-pizza.. crappy store-bought crust of course, and sauce (usually red, but sometimes alfredo for a white-pizza), and I can make it the way *I* want it, with more meat and cheese (which is whats important ;-) When I do this, I often use a bit of the leftover Uncle John's hot-link for my pizza topping. It works out great, I think they taste wonderful on a pizza (but then to me they taste wonderful pretty much anytime).

If this Maywood place smokes their links and then uses em on a pizza for you, do let us know how it comes out. I suspect it'll turn out very well (and may well encourage some of us to make a trip out to this place the next time we're around the southside :-)

Sounds like you need a box like this in your fridge:

lol - is that duct tape on the left side there? I have a 15 pounder in my freezer I got last year that was the lumpiest box ever put together, and it was held together by duct tape.

UJ's is just about the best place ever!

I have to agree. GWiv took me there for my first time a few weeks ago. It was oh so cool that Mack greets him like Gary is back in the old country. I got a huge surprise when they let us enjoy lunch eating in the kitchen. It was the best.
