Post #61 - March 20th, 2009, 12:45 pmBefore catching the Milwaukee bus to Ogilvie, I picked up falafel sandwich from Sultan's Market. I ate it in the food court after a 15 min bus ride. I was surprised that the pita held up so well since it was quite full. As for the sandwich, I was excited to see that they put hummus in the pita, but I was disappointed. The hummus was quite bland, and the falafel was nothing special, kind of dry and cold. There was a big batch sitting on top of the fryer, and I saw that my falafel came from the batch in the counter. Sultan's has jumped the shark, for sure by the time they opened the Clark street location. I was never a big fan of room temp felafel, but I used to get their shwarma, and that lamb thing they'd put over rice. When those dishes were under $5 and great. The yuppies came and found it, they raised their prices and the quality went down. When have we heard this story before?

But even in my family not everyone agrees. My daughter finds the outside crust not hard enough. I like them for that very reason. Naf Naf is so busy now that your falafel is usually only a minute or two old when you get it on your plate, so it really has not had time to "setup." I love that!
