I don't usually buy dogs anymore; they're so unhealthy that when I get a craving, I'd rather go out for one prepared dog instead of having a package of 10 sitting at home.

Also, I'm self-conscious about what Pie Dude's reaction might be.

I used to buy cartons of cookie dough and just spoon it up. That habit stopped several years ago...

But then while walking through the new Whole Foods in LP yesterday, I saw Carol's Cookies in the same format! Massive cartons of cookie dough for some of my fave cookies on the planet. Uh oh, trouble...

I am immensely curious about this development, are they in the frozen food section or elsewhere? I love Carol's chocolate chunk and dried cherry cookies but haven't been able to locate them recently when visiting WF, I would be tempted to buy the cartons by the truckload if they would let me.

Oh my goodness, Carol's cookies by the truckload sound devilishly perfect! This was the first time I saw the cookie dough cartons ever. They were situated somewhat near the cheese coolers along the West-side wall of the new Lincoln Park megastore, adjacent to the packaged Swirlz cupcakes and Karyn's Raw desserts. The regular Carol's Cookies were in their usual bakery spots, piled on stands near the bread and other local sweet treats.

Note to self, must find excuse to head over to the LP Whole Foods asap...

BK chicken sandwich. Used to eat them when I was a teen, haven't had them in a while- had one last week- just as I remembered. I think the mayo and the squooshy bun make it work.

I second the blue-cheese dressing leftover from wings pizza dipping fetish..

Instant pancake batter cooked in a skillet with a lot of oil so the edges fry up crispy, with a bunch of hersheys semi sweet chips melted on top- I would not dare eat this now, but this was my after-school snack when I was a teen!

Along with Mrs T's potato perogies, sauteed in butter with onions- then I would add some milk to make a gross looking gravy- I was really into cooking experimentation when I was a teenager.

My dad used to broil a big steak in the broiler, with some Lea and Perrins- after it was done, we would FIGHT over slices of Wonder bread dipped in the greasy worchestershire mess left over. So gross, so good!

Oh no, your reply made my day. The fact that you think I misinterpreted your answer tells me you did not spend your teenage years watching The Song Remains the Same at the midnight movie, listening to the sounds of beer bottles rolling slowly down the floor of the movie theater, hearing random freak shouts of "John Robert Bonham!", and looking around after you woke up at the end of the movie to see if anyone had made it without passing out.* Watching this at home will just never come close to the multimedia experience going on in the early '80s.

Ahhhhh, okay, I see now. And yes, guilty as charged, I didn't truly discover the beauty of Zeppelin until 8 or 9 years ago...my teenage years were spent passing out during the umpteenth viewing of the Dark Side of the Moon laser light show at the local planetarium :)

Breaded chicken strips, the kind you get from the average bar kitchen, with ranch & honey mustard for dipping. Cactus on State St. had some of my faves...I was pretty bummed when they closed. I somehow doubt the "upscale" patio bar that's about to open in its place will have a suitable replacement. Rocco's All-Star Cafe in Presidential Towers has some good strips...since it's located right behind my office building, buckets of Coors Light bottles & chicken strips used to be a happy hour staple back in our crazier days.

Triscuits with bacon-flavored Easy Cheese...that was a college favorite that I haven't had since.

Instant butterscotch-flavored pudding. JELL-O-brand preferably, but generic Food Club-brand would do too...another college fave that I haven't had in ages.

Slim Jims. I've tried spicy and Tabasco, but am happiest with regular. Fortunately these are a very occasional thing, usually purchased between 3am and 5am from a 7 Eleven while picking up Vitamin Water & Diet Pepsi in preparation for the hangover that I just know will be with me for most of the next day.

Turns out Sweet Baboo's guilty pleasure is Lorna Doone cookies. I just found this out. "Or any shortbread-type butter cookies, really," he says. "Pepperidge Farm Chessmen, anything like that."

KT: :: double, triple take :: "What? WHAT? Butter cookies? I've known you how long and I'm just finding this out now?"

SB: "Why, what would you have done differently?"

KT: "Well, I dunno, how about, MAKE some for you?"

SB: :: pauses, reflects on my limited baking and dessert-making skills, shakes head :: "Eh ... nah ... it wouldn't be the same."

Dang you, Lorna Doone! $4.50 per dinky box! Is there a factory outlet store somewhere in the Big Ten region?

How about Salerno Butter Cookies? Tee them up on a finger, dunk 'em in milk... can't get much cheaper for a butter cookie.

Actually, my guilty pleasure is just about any (commercial) cookie that's dunkable*. My primary reason for not favoring Girl Scout Thin Mints is that they benefit not at all by a milk dunk.
    • Oreos are probably the best: the creamy filling helps keep the integrity of an otherwise sodden cookie from collapsing into cup sludge.
    • The aforementioned butter cookies are also great, but much more fragile.
    • Fudge Stripe-style cookies, placed face down, benefit similarly to Oreos in integrity, but the chocolate on them tends to be so cheap that it's seldom worth eating them even when absorbing lactic love.
    • The humble Graham Cracker, baptised in 2% after being broken into thin strips, would probably be the eucharist of my personal church
But if you want my secret pleasure, it's Pop-Tarts Chocolate Chip, toasted lightly, broken into cup-sized strips (about 3-4 pieces per Tart), and dunked. You get the outside soaked in cold milk while the filling remains hot. Turns a piece of crap breakfast food into ambrosia.

    * I seldom dunk homemade, they're good as they are
