Roti Mediterranean Grill has a new branch in Vernon Hills:
    1240 E. Route 45
    (847) 883-8800
Just west of Milwaukee in the new lookalike shopping center on the north side of the street. You can actually see it from the street. :D

I used to patronize UFood, usually ordering falafel wraps or one of the chicken sandwiches, which were "OK". However, I went there to get lunch yesterday and got a veggie burger...it was atrocious and overpriced. I for one am not returning. I don't know how they're going to survive in a rather large space serving the kind of food that you could get elsewhere for cheaper.

I drove by today and there's a banner outside the building going up saying Zapatista's Mexican Grill is coming soon. The Moe's Southwest Grill signs have been taken down and are being replaced with Meathead's signs.

Not a restaurant, but for all you grocery store junkies out there---

Meijer will be taking over the old Value City space on Golf Road in Niles, approximately 9100 West.

Just what we need, another spot where you can buy underwear and a pot roast at the same time!

I think I read that Meijer is trying smaller stores and this store would not have clothes. This is an experiment that they are trying.

on the way to another outstanding dinner at Hachi's yesterday, I noticed a sign in the window of Rustik that said "On Vacation. Returning June 15th". The word June had a hand-drawn line through it, and "July" was hand-written above it. Bad signs at Rustik.

What's the point of going to Meijer if you can't get a dozen tube socks, some spark plugs, a pot roast, some beer, a tank of gas, and a 40 pound bag of cat food?

It's not open yet. We live within walking distance and have been waiting for what seems an eternity for this to open. There doesn't ever seem to be much action in the storefront.

The old Schaumburg Bennigans site(Martingale & Higgins) has a sign up for a zoning change. The village board website has the request coming from "Seasons 52". A quick google search turns up http://www.seasons52.com/. It's owned by Darden (Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Capital Grille, et al). Supposed to emphasize fresh food. Well at least mom won't be commenting on the empty corner.

I went to their outpost in Orlando a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. The place was packed and I ehard that you need to call weeks in advance for a reservation. Their "sthick" is that all main entrees are under 450 calories and you can have an appetiser, entree and dessert for under 1000 calories. Their desserts are the shot glass type. They do not deep fry anything and do not use butter in cooking. I had tortilla soup, their flatbread pizza, copper river salmon with corn risotto and beans, and pecan pie for dessert.

A lot of wines by the glass. Overall, I would go back if asked.

Noticed a new sign this morning for "primebar" on the first floor of the new 155 N. Wacker building, opening late 2009.

No additional information anywhere, but it might be a safe to assume business expense account type place (= Sidebar = Midtown Grill = 1N = Townhouse, etc)

I wonder since the Developer rode off Harry from the back end of this parcel, if there will be hot dogs on the menu. :x

I am not sure what this means exactly, but interestingly, I was driving past East of Edens, and noticed they were putting up yellow Vienna Beef awnings that said Harry's Hotdogs. At first I thought maybe Harry's bought East of Edens (would have been a step up), but a few days later I saw that the name had been removed from the awning. I guess it was just Vienna recycling promotional materials (or do the restaurants have to pay for the Vienna awnings?).

    It was tongue in cheek.

The Developer of 155 N. Wacker lobbied successfully to have the Giorodano's, Graves Travel, and Harry Hot Dog buildings on Randolph condemned by the City, so they could be knocked down and converted into some sort of park land. (Veiled references to the "beautification of Franklin Street" in the proceedings)

Yup! My Bride read about it in the local Wednesday Journal. No comment as to why.

I visited a few times and the owner seemed to have somewhat of an attitude. Not very friendly.

I had noticed, a year or so ago, that they were moving into the food arena (not tried it) and they might of been better off keeping it simple.

The location should of been able to do well as it is the only coffee shop (other than Taste of Brazil) near the popular Oak Park stop of the Blue Line. The few times I visited was when I did not have my trusty mug-o-joe from home heading to the EL or maybe a Sunday morning pastry and coffee for My Bride.

This blows. Their entrees were nothing special and their skillets / omelettes rather carelessly prepared, but their beignets were excellent and they made one of my favorite coffee drinks, an excellent, bitter-edged malted iced mocha that managed to actually taste like real chocolate, coffee, and malt instead of syrup. My wife will be going into mourning over this.

Several months ago a manager at the Grill Room mentioned to me that the firm would be opening a restaurant at 155 North Wacker. This is the same firm that has One North, Townhouse and Midtown Kitchen, so Willkat98's supposition about the restaurant is probably pretty much on target.

Never been to a Red Hen, but my wife and I both really liked the cinnamon roll bread and almond bread from Great Harvest. Their challah bread was a nice occasional pick-up for making french toast with as well. I'd trade Red Hen and Klay Oven to have Great Harvest and Cafe le Coq back in a second. And Oberweiss to get Haagen-Dazs back. And the current incarnation of Winberie's for what was there around 20 years ago, I think. And... sigh. There's a lot I miss at that intersection.

Oh, and the beignets will indeed be missed, Santander. Never did hit on a coffee drink there I was terribly fond of, but the beignets were a nice snack once in a while.
