Does anyone know of a bakery where I can find good quality mini burger buns? I am hosting a small family party soon and I plan on serving small smoked chicken sandwiches. I prefer to buy from a bakery or local baker, if possible. Supermarket shopping is a last resort.

Thanks. I'll be sure to post about my findings, as always.

    Best,
    Michael

I don't know if this will help you, but the last time we did sliders, we used the challah rolls I purchased at Fresh Farms, which are from Shalom Kosher Bakery. As they are the fluffy commercial-type challah, they made a nice sturdy bun, and it was but a moment's work to split them.

    HI,

Gary used Bridgeport Bakery buns costing around 33 cents each for the pork program at Peggy Notebaert last winter.

La Briola sells mini pretzel rolls at the Daley Plaza market on Thursdays, and elsewhere too, I'd imagine. I believe these are mini versions of the same buns used at Kuma's.

I was just about to respond Bridgeport Bakery then saw Cathy beat me to the punch. Great mini rolls, and very definitely local. Bonus for full round of Polish pastries and the ever loving Bacon Bun.

Gasp (here the air whooshing into my chest), Bacon Buns! What a thing to behold when I haven't had my breadfast. Someone, mop up the drool.

We are having an Eagle Scout ceremony and serving pulled pork sandwiches. I am looking for suitable buns for pulled pork sandwiches. The size of the bun is important. I the bun is too big kids(of all ages) will load up the bun and often end up throwing out half of the food. This behavior has no correlation to the quality of the pork.

Hamburger buns are too big and structurally unacceptable. Gonnella has a mini Kaiser available which might work. Unfortunately, Restaurant Depot appears to be the only place I might be able to get get it. I do not have a tax card. A mini brat bun might work. I am open to any and all suggestions. Should I ask Pticeks, LaBriola or Tischmans to make or have a bun?

I know the smoking gods will be able to point me in the right direction. I am in the near west burbs.

    Thanks

I've been told that you can slice off 1/2-inch slices of pre-made breadstick dough and they come out just like buns.

funkyfrank: gonnella bakery is located near the intersection of chicago and milwaukee ave.in chicago. why not call them and see if you can pick up an order directly from them? you didnt say how many buns you needed; a big order might make them happy to help out. corporate HQ is on west erie, phone 312-733-2020. for mini sandwiches, i like natural ovens mini whole wheat buns, available at whole foods. maybe these would work for you. justjoan

Mamma Susi in Berwyn (the Turano bakeshop) has bulk bags of tiny pretzel rolls that are killer, and keep reasonably well. Call in advance to reserve.

When I placed an order with Nicole's Divine Crackers, she mentioned that they offer various sizes of hamburger buns. You might want to call her and find out about their smallest buns.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tasted alternative solutions from Pticek's in Garfield Ridge/Chicago and Kirschbaum's in Western Springs. Pticeks will make a Kaiser to my specs for $3 per dozen.

Kirschbaum's won the chocolate cake donutathon. I should have included Weber's.

Try Dinkel's, 3329 N. Lincoln Ave. 773.281.7300. I bought little pretzel buns there a few years back. Give them a call and see what they can come up with. They are closed on mondays if I remember right.

The bag of dinner rolls from Costco are great for mini sandwiches. 40 rolls for about 4 bucks. They are yumm.
