Has anyone been to this restaurant - Groupon has a coupon deal for it but I'm hesitant to bite without knowing more about it. BTW, the coupon is $50 worth of food and drink for $20.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi,

There are mentions in threads. If you add the keyword: wacker to one north, then you will find it easier.

I just checked the Groupon site and the One North restaurant you mentioned is the one Grandma Bobbi and I dined at whenever we went to the opera right across the street. We used to have Saturday night season tickets at the Lyric. We were there this past Feb or Mar and the quality was still excellent. They do an outstanding job and the deal you got was a good one. When you make a reservation, ask for Dolly. She was our favorite waitress and was there the last time we went. Tell her Bobbi and Bob from Highland Park say "hi." She ought to remember us. (She says we're unforgettable.)
    Best regards,
    Grandpa Bob

One North is primarily a business lunch place which also does a good dinner business before operas. The bar is regularly packed and loud on Friday evenings with no sound barrier between bar area and dining area. Therefore, we try not to eat at One North before our regular Friday evening opera seats except if we are dealing with the Friday after Thanksgiving. On the other hand, it is a great change of pace from Lloyd's if we have exchanged tickets for a week night. Also worth noting is that One North is open on Saturdays only during the opera season for pre-opera dining.

It is in the Restaurants America group but is not a clone of any of their other restaurants. The food has been quite decent but nothing spectacular. Entrees are mostly in the twenties, so the coupon deal is a good value. They had quite a few bottles of wine priced in the thirties a few months ago. At their regular prices I do not see much reason to go there unless you need a business-type or pre-opera restaurant in that neighborhood.
