In the Hot Doug's thread it was mentioned that Sat was National Corn Dog day. Since my wife and I were already throwing an NCAA party, I decided
to make my own Corndogs.
I never truly deep fried anything at home, so I borrowed a friends small imitation Fry Daddy.
I bought the wonderful dogs with thick snappy skin and a light smokey flavor from Kurowski's polish deli on Milwaukee north of Diversy.
The batter was cornmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda, chili powder, pureed creamed corn, lowfat buttermilk, lowfat milk, and egg.
The fryer was a piece of crap with no temp control and it did not get quite hot enough to produce a really crispy outside.
Other than that, they were truly wonderful.
Oh, and I also fried some poppers, made with canned pickled jalapenos stuffed with a mixutre of mozzarella and goat cheese.
Next time I might have to use Thuringers instead of dogs.
