The Northern Illinois Branch of the International Wine & Food Society will hold a Madeira Party on Saturday, October 17 at Kendall Culinary College in Chicago. This will be a fun and educational event, with hors d'oevres and five courses each paired with a different Madeira. I will also do a brief presentation on the history of Madeira wine in America. This event will be a fabulous time and expose everyone to the forgotten flavor of Madeira and how they pair with food.

The price for the event is $160 per person. Members will be in black tie, but non-members can wear business suits. Ladies will of course be in their usual fineness. You can find more information on the branch website here, which includes an invitation and how to pay via check. For those wanting to pay via credit card, you can do so here however there will be some service charges added.

I hope you can join us for this fun event.

It is true that we are neither a grammar website nor a social movement one, but there is something odd about the phrasing above. I believe that member of the IWFS can be of either gender, which suggests that female members will be wearing black tie and female non-members will wear business suits. And then this other category of being "ladies" (of whom there may be few on this board) can wear their usual fineness (perhaps black tie or business suits?).

Well, it sounds like a fine dinner, members, non-members, and ladies all. :?
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

It's a tough concept to describe without using a lot of words, so that was my best shot at it. The Northern Illinois branch is a co-ed branch, so there will be many female members there. I'm sure none will be in black tie however.
