Irisarbor +1 and thaiobsessed are now confirmed. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at Sun Wah.

I'm looking forward to this dinner. There's a small chance I'll be late because I'll be coming straight from a Humanities Festival event. If I ride my bike, I'll be on time. If I take CTA, I'll probably be late. I'll be there though!

Is there a ballpark cost on this or are going by the 27.50 rule?

Yeah, I basically meant to say, "Don't wait for me." The thought of 30 LTHers hungry for duck and pork being annoyed with me...kind of scary. See y'all tonight. :D

Yes, except that it will probaby be closer to the $30 mark including tax and tip.

    Steve,

I've just gotten back from the emergency room. Out walking (so much for exercise) and fell, hit my head and the result is a concussion and beautiful shiner. Sooooo, I'm not coming tonight. Huge bummer! See you at the next event.

Sorry to hear about your injury. I assume that your +1 is not coming either.

Terrific meal last night and great company, to boot.
Sun Wah hasn't missed a beat with the move.
Stevez, thanks for organizing and ordering. I'm sort of wishing I had a duck carcass with a few scraps to pick off at home right now...

Amazingly one week into the new digs Sun Wah was on the mark, Peking Duck courses delicious, baby bok choy incredibly tender with an almost silky texture, steamed fish fillet with Chinese ham elevating tilapia to new heights and the best version of fried garlic ribs to cross my plate.

Filled to capacity at one point, the spiffy new Sun Wah experienced greater than typical lag time between ordering, serving, busing, tea/water refills etc, I might suggest adding additional weekend personnel specifically for liquid delivery and table clearing, but on the plate, where it counted, there were no gaffs whatsoever.

In addition to our large party of LTHers the ever engaging VitalInformation and CondimentQueen were in the house with a group and after 5-years of knowing GAF I finally met his very lovely bride. Had the great pleasure of meeting a few new to me LTHers and sat next to BryanZ who at 23 has the palate, experience and depth of knowledge of someone twice his age.

Thanks for arranging Steve, food was terrific, but the interesting, animated conversation and unbridled gustatory enthusiasm of LTHers really made the evening.

    Enjoy,

Thank you, stevez, for organizing such a lovely evening. I got to catch up with some LTHers I hadn't seen in a while and to meet new ones, including fellow Tagalog-speaking Montreal Peking duck-loving maila and guest.

Rum might have had something to do with that enthusiasm. Thank you, ronnie_suburban, for sharing. Yummy stuff. :D

Was a pleasure to meet those that I did, and I regret not being able to meet everyone else I didn't. I thought the meal was soulful, rich, and quite delicious. With that said, I did have some issues with the restaurant that all largely emanate from the service side of the operation. Unfortunately, I thought that some of those problems adversely affected the food. My full impressions are in the Sun Wah thread, http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=292017#p292017.

Again, a pleasure to meet everyone. Gary and Ronnie are clearly both a wealth of information, and I fully appreciated being able to pick their brains about Chicago's dining scene for a couple hours.

And, of course, a big thank you to stevez for organizing the event.

A wonderful dinner with a wonderful crowd! Thanks stevez for organizing. The Peking Duck was finger licking good and the delicate steamed fish danced on my palette. I forgive any lag in the service because the staff is obviously getting a feel for the great big new place. I'm sure that by the time they officially open, everything will be on track.

I wasn't at this event, but I've been blown away in the past by how wonderful the service at Sun Wah is for big group events. Blown away not because it was perfect, but because it was so much better than what I think one should reasonably expect from a humble place serving a multicourse menu to a huge group at such low prices. While it would be nice never to experience any of the issues that occurred at the Welcome Back bash, it still sounds like Sun Wah continues to do this type of thing in a way that amazes me.

Thanks SteveZ for organizing a great evening at Sun Wah's new space. The Peking duck service was as good as ever, the sole meltingly tender, the bok choy tasty and cooked just right. I did think the pork was cold and not as crispy as usual and the duck broth was oddly bland. As someone who's worked in restaurants and opened new ones I agree with the service criticisms, but they've barely been open two weeks, it seems unfair to be too critical while they're working out the kinks.

My friend Leone who came with said the thing that impressed her the most about LTHer's is the incredible warmth and generosity of the people involved and I completely agree. Gary and Ronnie gave us taste's of some wonderful rum and rye they bought and as BrianZ mentioned we heard some interesting stories about hookers (one of them mine  ). I don't think I'll be able to go to the Holiday Party so it was a nice treat to catch up with old and new friends.
