Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have the Evanston Lunch Group thrust upon 'em! :D Since I was appointed to be the organizer this month, I decided to go maverick and choose Manghal, a brand-new restaurant up the street on Howard that I know almost nothing about, other than that they're kosher. Only one or two mentions on the forum so far indicate nobody else has tried it, either - so we're all jumping in together.

    Manghal
    1805 Howard St, Evanston, IL
    (847) 859-2681‎

**Due to an oversight on my part, we will be rescheduling lunch at Manghal for another time, and will be having lunch on Dec. 18 at Edzo's instead. See you there! (At least I probably don't need to call the restaurant for this one!)

    Edzo's Burger Shop
    1571 Sherman Ave
    Evanston, IL

    Attendees thus far:

    GAF

    moetchandon
    Eva + 1
    tarte tatin
    gastro gnome

I'm looking forward to it. Who knows what we might discover. Are you going maverick or going rogue?

I think we should formally invite Sarah Palin. After all, she she doesn't have to run a state any more. But even if she blows us off, I'll be there.

I have not eaten there but stopped in to look at the menu and it smelled GREAT - the menu looks good Israeli similar to Taboum - the reviews I have been hearing though have been very positive with some minor that seem to be they might still be working out the rough edges - I will try to make it over but if I do not I will look forward to your reviews -

Great minds must think alike, GAF, because "going rogue" was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read this. I suppose any further comments on the subject would be like beating a dead moose....

PS. I'll be there on the 18th. Looking forward to it!

Are we sure Manghal's is open on Fridays for lunch? By coincidence, I received a flyer from them today, and it appears they are closed on Fridays and Saturdays.

PS. Just called them, and they in fact are only open Monday-Thursday and Sunday, 12-9 pm all five days.

Do we want to change the date--or the restaurant?

Go figure - but it stands to reason that a kosher place might not be open on Fridays at all! At any rate, my schedule is somewhat up in the air for that week, so it doesn't matter much to me whether we change the place or the date...I'm tentatively available on Wednesday of that week (god willing and the creek don't rise... ) thoughts?

I'd like to keep it on Friday but can do any other day that week.

I agree with EvA to keep it on Friday. If it is Thursday or Wednesday, I will need to rearrange my schedule. Perhaps we can do Manghal in January, and, perhaps, Edzo's in December.

Do you have room for one more? I know the restaurant is on the smaller side but I would really like to get out and finaly meet some LTHers.

(I have a day off that day so there will be none of this cancelling due to work emergencies stuff that has shamed me in the past.)

Grits, of course you're welcome - FWIW, I'm not making reservations, it's just not that kind of place - we'll all just order on our own and hope for the best, table-wise (though, thus far, even busy as it's been, I've always had success snagging a table after my order gets placed)

Um, however - I just found out that Sparky's school holiday thing is at 1:30 - I was wondering if we could push up to noon? What do you all think? I'm thinking we're going to have to get there early to make the day work, anyway...

I may be bringing my daughter just arrived home from college on winter break. She's a major hamburger fan, and her eyes got very big when she heard about the nutella shake.

Some car issues cropping up with the cold snaps so I am bowing out to hit the dealer (maybe literally, depending on the bill).
