    Hi,

While not intended as a Christmas present by the facilitator, I choose to call it a Christmas present: half a deer (the other half shared with a friend) harvested on December 23rd. It will give me lots of fun working my way through it. I hope to get a pair of mocassins out of it, too.

I received an interesting knife, which I will described better later.

A Collins Street Fruitcake is waiting for New Year's to crack open.

Edit in: a lovely apron, which I will be afraid to dirty.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I got one, too! I used it once, it seemed to do fine.

made some chocolate chip cookies last night. Creaming the butter & sugar was definitely better/faster. No side-scraping needed at all.

Got that book last x-mas, and consult it all the time. If you’re the type to riff and spin off recipes, you’re going to love it. As someone who hasn't been cooking all that long, it has been a great tool to help figure out what to make with all those grocery store impulse buys.

I bought our family a bone in Iberico Spanish Pata Negra Ham from JDY meats in Chicago and it is AWESOME! A total suprise as I wrapped up bread, tomatoes, olive oil, a slicer and no one could figure it out until the end.

Fun post and real neat gifts everyone!

    Awesome!

Was that a special order, or is it something that JDY gets in from time to time? The likelihood of one of those finding its way into my kitchen any time soon is pretty slim (besides, who am I kidding? I'd want to keep that bad boy on the front table), but a guy can dream....

A dangerous thing to have around, and not just for the fat content: there's a slip and fall hazard from the dog drool. My beagle probably wouldn't leave the kitchen until that thing is eaten, one way or another.

We have encountered many problems from the accidential late night snack to a friend ours trying to watch my password into my house to get at it!
JDY meat does carry these on a regular basis, I believe, as I think the old company Solex partners merged with them. Very nice people and they have a great selection of Spanish products for really good prices. I travel regularlly to Spain(and got in trouble with customs many years back bringing in chorizos, lomos, hams, angulas before they were available here) as I have family over there and always dream of the ham when I get home so finally I found one. I am sure this gift will put up a couple points on the blood pressure but its well worth it.

Mrs. Davooda actually gave it to me early so I could use it for Christmas - an All-Clad Stainless pot/white porcelain double boiler. I nearly wept. Does this make me a "foodie?"

I'd been using a piece of crap Wal-Mart double-boiler to make hollandaise/bearnaise for years so this was most welcome. The clan loves hollandaise on their grilled asparagus and the pan performed just great! I took great pleasure in throwing out the old set-up.

Maybe next year Santa will bring me a nice risotto pan

It's what I received at the Sun Wah LTH Holiday Dinner (Gary's Barbecue book!) and gave to my brother because I knew that it was destined to become his new religion, he was just in need of the bible. Sure enough this is what he texted me, "Tell Gary Wiviott I just got a Weber Smokey Mountain. Hope to make Chicken Mojo Criollo next week." Then the next text was, actually I can't say what the next text was because of the words he used to describe the people who gave Gary's book a 1 or 2 on Amazon. His opinion is that they obviously have no sense of humor. Definitely the most perfect gift I've ever given my brother.

The Luxardo cherries sound interesting. I gave a jar of amarena fabbri cherries. These turned out to be not exactly like I thought they would taste like.

Regarding Bathazar, they had the most amazing frites there, crisp skinny fries that accompanied a steak. Yum.
