After reading Kelly's menu and dinner with some fellow LTH'ers last evening I agreed to see if we can put together a table or two to try Sun Wah's Chinese New Year's menu on Wednesday, February 24, at 7:00pm. I'll start with 12 people and if we have enough people on the wait list we can do a second table. I'll call Kelly to reserve so sign up for some good eats. Here's a link to Kelly's post and menu, yum. http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27534

I wish I could bit I'll be out of town that day. It sounds great, though. I'm sorry I'm going to miss this.

They're on the wait list, but I have two friends who would like to do the dinner also and when they confirm with me we should have enough for two tables.

I just found out I have to go to California for work on Friday and won't be back in time for the Sun Wah dinner, boudreaulicious has graciously offered to take over organizing duties for me. I'm sorry I won't get to see all of you and try the menu, hopefully next time.

    Hi all,

Since I can't edit mbh's post at the beginning of the thread, i'll keep the updated list here. We can still accomodate more (ideally, we need about 6 more to do 2 tables or we can just order a few extra dishes to accomodate the 1-2 extra we have right now) so if you know anyone or are reading this and would like to join us, please do!

Thanks for the heads up nr706.

As of now we have a full table--I'll add people on the waiting list and see where we end up. mbh thougth that if we had more than 10-12, they'd likely work with us to accomodate the group, no matter the size. I'm going to call Kelly on Monday and see what she says.

Sorry to hear Octarine! Always a bummer when work interferes with the important things in life (like Chinese New Year feasts )

For anyone else interested in getting in on this, speak now (or at least by tomorrow) or forever hold your peace :D We have room for a few more.

    thanks!

Thanks to all for a great time.
I can say now I never need to eat dried, reconstituted oysters ever again, but everything else was wonderful.
    (the meal needed more duck!)

My favorites were the lobster, the sole and the mushrooms with tofu and pea(?) shoots, but the combination of all the little bits made for a wonderful meal.

The dessert, "year cake," came out as sort of Chinese French Toast. I'll have to try to make that. Kelly said it was glutinous rice flour, coconut milk and sugar.

I went earlier this week and had the opposite reaction to the oysters. I did wonder why they bothered going through the drying/reconstituted process and would have preferred chewier oyster texture, but I loved the flavors. Also, the desert moss was a pleasant surprise on that plate.

I was wondering what went into that desert. Someone at my table pegged the rice flour and sugar, but we figured there had to be something else. Coconut milk makes sense.
