Stopped by. Fantastic attitude among the owners and staff. It goes a long way, especially at a new place in a high-traffic, high-expectations 'hood. Really liked the Greek salad and dogs. Fries, not great. My fried fish, while good, was laughably small. I was looking around for Alan Funt. They'll fix the bumps and do well, much as DQ down the street has for similar reasons. And that's no knock on either place. Simple, familiar, dependable, welcoming places in an area where these are surprisingly lacking. PS: sleeper of the menu is the French toast. Check it.

I made my second visit to Leo's this afternoon, and after wading through a huge 2pm crowd and a good half-hour wait, my patience was rewarded.

In my last post, the only flaw I could find was the Lemon Rice Soup not being what I remembered, and then learning afterwards from one of the owners that the batch that day was not to their standards. The promise made to me that day was that when I returned I would be more than happy with the soup - and Jason was a man of his word. The soup was exactly as I remembered it from back in the "old country", and as last time, the Greek Salad and Pita were great.

We had a chance to chat with one of the other owners, Jeremy, as well today, and found him to be like Jason - attentive to the expectations of his demanding clientele. Our server was great - another ex-Detroiter - and the place just emitted a great vibe of happy people eating simple but well-prepared comfort food.

Kudos to all associated with Leo's.

As another former Detroiter, I have to say I'm pretty excited to see Leo's come to Chicago. The coney dog is spot on. The bun is soft, the hot dog snappy, and the chili perfectly spiced. They have recreated their magic exactly, and I couldn't be happier, especially since I walk by it every day on my way home from work.

I tried Leo's for the first time about a week ago and thought it was pretty good. Since I am a fan of chili cheese dogs I guess I'm also a fan of Coney's. I will always stop when I see an old Coney shack somewhere in middle America. The dog had a real nice snap to it and as someone who loves his Vienna Beef natural casing dogs way more than most other varieties, these were pretty good tubes. The fries I believe were frozen but I've had much worse.

I went with the special of a Coney dog (ordered with cheese) and a small Greek salad. The dog held up surprisingly well with the Coney sauce, mustard and cheese oozing on top. I'm also not much of a salad guy but liked my Greek salad and enjoyed the talked about dressing they use and also sell by the bottle which I'll grab one of next time. Its nothing to drive out of the way for but not a bad addition on a block filled with alot of nothing as far as a quick bite. I might be back late one night to dine in after a night out.

Note: I got an email saying that if you bring your ticket stub from the Cubs game that day (thru Sunday 4/18) that you can turn it in for a free Coney dog.
