Customary Dining Companion was good enough to take me up to Evanston Hospital this AM for some post-surgical tests, so I repaid him by taking him to lunch at Edzo's. After couple of weeks of institutional food, burgers/fries/shakes seemed a perfect option, and Ed didn't let us down. Happily, our timing was perfect: there was a line of one guy and his kids when we got there, and one nearly out the door not five minutes later, which remained that way the whole time we were there. Sweet!

CDC had a double griddled burger with American cheese; I went wild, and ordered a big grilled burger with blue cheese and a fried egg. We both opted for Oreo shakes, and split an order of Merkt's-enhanced cheese fries, too - so much for healthy living. Everything was done exactly as ordered, and my fried egg had a wonderfully runny yolk, which made for some hilariously messy eating. Loved that the shakes came dressed with whipped cream and a cherry, and included the canister - they served as both appetizer and dessert. We left happy and satisfied, though somewhat fatter than when we arrived.

Also, my sharp-eyed CDC took note of something that I will surely be taking advantage of during the rest of my surgeon's no-driving edict: Edzo's delivers, and to Rogers Park, Skokie, Lincolnwood, and Wilmette, as well as in Evanston. I'm thinkin' a grilled PB and bacon sandwich, accompanied by a banana malt, will make the remainder of my convalescence a breeze. Nice work, Ed! We'll be back ASAP, too; this joint seems a prime post-Evanston Farmers Market lunch option, assuming that spring ever arrives...

What about delivery a little further north? There's an 11:58 Metra train from Davis that gets to Highland Park at 12:24 and a 12:34 train from HP that gets back to Davis at 1:00. Make it a regular once a week delivery, say Wednesday, and I am sure we can get enough people to order to make it worth your while. I am only half-kidding. I need me a Nutella shake and those garlic fries.

Wait, Edzo's delivers? Would those boundaries happen to stretch to include those of us in the burgerless desert that is West Rogers Park?

The burger with grilled onions, jalapenos, pickles and mustard I had from Five Guys near the Loyola red line stop, along with excellent and abundant fries, was excellent. I live in West Rogers Park (or West Ridge) and it took me five minutes to get down there and pick up my burger. Hardly a burger desert. But delivery by Edzo's would definitely be welcome.

I agree, FIVE minutes? Come on. I'll put money on that.

I tried the Hot Fudge shake recently at Edzo's and it's a winner. Even Eddie thought it wasn't among the better ones and recommended other flavors, plus my friend Steve said to at least add malt. But I went with a regular Hot Fudge shake and it was excellent, better than the chocolate one. Steve, who always has to add malt to any shake, admitted that it didn't need any. Looking forward to it again. Oh, and my burgers have been amazing every single time.

Five minutes may be a bit of hyperbole, but certainly no more than 10 in a car with a Mario Andretti-like (or Arab) driver - ie myself.

Zoom straight down Pratt, take a right at Sheridan, double park next to the CVS on Arthur.

While I don't presume to speak for Ed re: the delivery boundaries, I'd think that the inclusion of both Lincolnwood and Skokie in the list of areas delivered to would imply that West Rogers Park is eligible. Edzo's is closed today, alas, but give them a call tomorrow to double-check - the number is 1.847.864.EDZO (3396). Keep hope alive! :)

Haha, thanks for the kind words on Evanston, my humble hometown. 8)

As for Edzo's, was in downtown Evanston getting a quick bite to eat this afternoon, but it was just after 4, there were people in there but didn't want to push it. I want to say they weren't always open on saturdays, nice that they are now. Ended up at Al's instead.

Today, the City of Evanston is holding a press conference as part of their campaign to get Google to bring them a high-speed broadband network. In support, Edzo's is offering a "google" burger: 8 oz. char with bacon, egg, grilled onions, jalapeños and garlic butter.

I had lunch at Edzo's this past weekend with a buddy along with my 5-1/2 yr old boy & his 6-yr old boy. The 2 of us split an 8 oz char and a griddled double. I love that you can get a true mid-rare burger here. But I have to say that I preferred the griddled double. I think I'm just a sucker for that diner-style of burger that gets griddled in it's own juices...mmm.

The other thing that really struck me was the bun they used. It was soft and airy but maintained it's structural integrity and didn't turn into mush. It actually reminded me a lot of the Sheboygan hard roll.

I'm looking forward to going back!

I went to Edzo's this past Sunday, after a crazy workout I had (oh the irony) and I have to say I would definitely treck it up to Evanston again to go. I tried to keep it simple, I ordered the 4oz griddle burger with everything except onions, merkt's cheddar fries and a vanilla malt. The burger was really good, I liked the texture of the meat, the burnt ends really added something to the burger. I liked it's simplicity as well, I mean for a burger, a real hamburger, this was some good shit. The fries were good, I could do without them next time, it was just a lot of food and the malt was amazing, as I was telling my friends, the second best shake I've ever had. One of my friends ordrered an oreo shake, which of course I had to sample and this thing was amazing. I'm definitely going for that option next time I stop in. The day I was there, the also had a Mexican Spicy Chocolate shake. I didn't see it until after I ordered, but it sounded good.

I saw the brat on the menu but didn't notice the Sheboygan part. Is is really a Sheboygan-style brat? 2 brats served on a butter hamburger-style bun, with mustard, onions, pickles? The bun they use for their burger is awfully close to what they use for brats.

I haven't seen the Edzo brat bun, but after living in Wisconsin for many years I can say that a true old style Wisconsin Brat will have more of a elongated oval style bun, not long and thin like your typical hot dog bun.

The bun will also be tougher then a hot dog bun. This is a good thing because many people use the onions that the brats were stewed in along with beer/water before the brats are char grilled.

That is a typical Wisconsin brat, but there is actualy a special Sheboygan style that is a double brat on a hard roll that some call a semmel roll. It sound exactly like what Edzo's is going for, although I haven't been. This is a typical Sheboygan brat, minus the very strange appearence of ketchup here. You'll see the big fake one in the background has the typical mustard, onions and pickles.

Best milkshake, Stand in NY, the toasted marshmallow milkshake. It's really as good as Michael Simon says. What makes it so great is the real toasted marshmallow taste, not faux.

I went back to Edzo's again this Saturday and had the Oreo shake and I thought this was better than the vanilla malt. One of my friends I was with ordered the Nutella milkshake, but we agreed Oreo is better. They jam pack the shake with so many cookies, if you really love oreo's, you have to get this one.

We celebrated some good news by making our maiden voyage to Edzo's. Timing was on our side - we had braced ourselves for a long line at just before noon, but instead, there was no line at all! The line formed almost instantly behind my husband, though.

I had the griddled cheeseburger with cheddar and the works, husband had a char cheddar with the works, and we split a Nutella shake and garlic fries. Surprisingly, I found after eating my burger I could have actually gone for a double - normally a single is plenty, but the single burger wasn't at all heavy. This is not a negative, a heavy burger would have left less space for fries and shake. The Nutella shake was everything I hoped for, in fact. Next time it might be wise to each order our own rather than battle over the one

Surprisingly, my husband preferred my slender burger to his thick one, and even more surprisingly, I liked the taste of his char burger as much as my own. Normally I find those types of burgers to be unwieldy, but the flavor of the beef was quite good.

Now to plan when I can justify another visit.....

I would say it's 98% smooth, at the bottom there were a few thick chunks of cookie and the thick cream. You have to get it and let me know what you think.

Thanks to my car's "check engine" light, necessitating a trip to our mechanic in Evanston, I made it in for a second visit today. Not being in a beef mindset of late, I chose the veggie burger with cheese and mushrooms, which was very good and which probably saved me from dropping dead of starvation (at least it felt like it). Love the fries. I typically eat about half of whatever pile of fries I get, but I actually finished this portion. I was happy that the small fries really were small, just enough to scratch the itch, without overloading. I do wish the shakes were available in small sizes, though - I would have loved another Nutella, but just couldn't justify drinking all that shake by myself.

I just noticed something upthread - the second B in the PB&B is bacon? That is one of my favorite sandwiches to make at home, but I've never seen it on a menu. That will be the order next time!

Another wonderful lunch at Edzo's yesterday. Place was humming but line moved quickly and tables were open as needed. Superb double griddled with american cheese. Crispy on edges but also still pleasantly loose texture to burger. Super juicy. Very hot and crispy fries. Nutella shake to die for!

Also saw Eddie is offering a new shake with bacon. Was tempted but had to have my Nutella. Anyone tried this baco-shake yet?
