Always nice to get another Culver's but this is just a few miles from their Dempster location in Mt. Prospect.

Manee Thai at Addison and Pulaski, which has been "coming soon" since September or October, seems to be near opening. They've got permanent signs up and the inside looks nearly complete.

There is a sign in the window of the former KFC/Pizza Hut at 60 E. Lake St, indicating that a Japanese restaurant is coming. I live across the street from there, so hopefully it'll be good, but I have my doubts based on the location and the generic 'Japanese restaurant' title.

Elliot's Dairy at Gunnison and Narragansett closed last week... I finally stopped by to check it out, and the doors were locked and the shelves were being cleared.

(It was the end of March, but that thread was already closed, so I'm posting it here.)

It sounds like it was very sudden... don't know if the catering will continue in some form or not. The web site has an ad that was good through 3/17/10, so it must have been a very fast decision.

I'm really sad I didn't get in there before it shut down. :(

It was so sudden that they didn't even get to stop their deliveries. I read that in the Pioneer paper, but I can't find a link online.

Opening up on Devon & Rockwell (?) is Patel's Cafe (??) whose tagline is something about sweet traditions (???). Sorry for the vague information, but I just saw it in passing. I felt it was worth noting because judging from the fresh, modern look of the logo, it just might be a new type of thing, a cafe serving something other than the standard fare.

A bit far-fetched perhaps, but I have hope.

Although I never used it, I'll miss the giant pickle barrel. They also had some unusual stuff there that other stores didn't carry.

Just received this very unexpected email:

Va Pensiero Restaurant and Catering is now closed. Thank you to everyone who supported us these past 21 years. We cannot express how much it means to us to know you were all part of the Va Pensiero family. Jeff and I poured our hearts and souls into making Va Pensiero a fabulous dining experience; a welcoming place for you to spend your special occasions; and a home away from home. In return, you shared with us with your celebrations, your stories, and your lives. Thank you, thank you!

We are most grateful to our dedicated staff who have been so instrumental in creating these exceptional experiences for you, and in earning us recognition over our many years. It breaks our hearts to part with all of you. We wish you all the very best life has to bring.

    Grazie!

Hi- I live right in back of Va Pensiero, and I am totally shocked that they have closed. Every time I've walked past the place in the evening, the restaurant has been full. It was out of my price range, but I have some friends that love the place. Thanks for the info. Nancy

Departing from the Rosebud model, Eatt will serve sandwiches and comfort food all day, including dinner/breakfast until 2 or 3 a.m.

You mean you don't see it as a perfect option for dinner before catching a movie at the Congress Theater? I hear Clark Gable will be starring in a new film due out next month...Gone out the Window...or something like that. Sounds like a perfect date night to me.

Oh man, Vernon Hills is tantalizing close (but will have to compete with the siren call of those KFC Snackers, which sadly are a vice). Didn't know Ben & Jerry's closed. Kind of a shame, not that I had been there in a decade, but it was where I first discovered then unique chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream back in the Clinton administration.

I drove by Ciao Napoli Pizzeria (2607 N Milwaukee Ave, just off the circle in Logan Square) and it's ****finally open****. From the reviews on Yelp, it looks like they could use a little time to work out the kinks. I am happy to see anything other than an empty storefront in the neighborhood, and I'm hoping this will turn into a nice little pizza joint.
