well, the bitter end is relatively light-bodied for its hop levels so subjectively may seem hoppier than some other beers. I like the beer a lot but it could stand to be a bit maltier to balance out the hops.

I'll have to check the Naperville store the next time I'm there. My Friday afternoon stop only turned up cases of Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest for $23.99.

I noticed somebody had listed Hop Juice as a year-round. I don't know if they have been corrected, but it is most definitely one of their seasonals. One of the best I have ever had, I might add. Their year-rounds are: The Bitter End, Cane and Ebel, Ebel's Weiss, Domaine Dupage, and Prairie Path. Their Hop Juice is one of the best IPA's ever and is released late spring/early summer. They have a "Hop Fest" to celebrate and most of their stock is sold that day. I found stragglers a couple months later tucked away in a certain store, but you can't beat it fresh.

I really can't think of a beer by Two Brothers I've had that I didn't enjoy immensely. If they re-release their Avalon, it is a great one also. It has a nice apple flavor to it and is the only beer there my wife enjoyed, as she is more of a Miller girl unfortunately.

$18.99 for the Kirkland Handcrafted Ales and Lager at our Costco. Is this new? Hopefully a good deal. Only tried one so far. Seems like a winner.

Has anyone noticed the water they use tastes a little funky? I really like their beers, but I overheard a brewer say once "They're great beers made with ----y water." Ever since then I've noticed hints of well water. I don't mind well water so much, and like I said, I like their beers, but after hearing that, I started noticing a little funky flavor. Has anyone else noticed this?

Not sure if they ever dropped off, but as a new Costco Convert they've still got plenty of Two Brothers variety cases.

I posted about it for our new site here, but here's the important beer math:

The contents? Four individual six-packs of Domaine Dupage, Prairie Path Ale, the Bitter End Pale Ale, and a sixer of Cain & Ebel. By my basic math, if you were to walk into any major beer retailer like Binnys, you’d have to drop almost $40 to take all this home.

Or, look at it this way – you’re buying three six-packs at the normal retail price, and getting six bottles of Cain & Ebel for free.

Or, look at it this way – if you’re used to buying a couple of these other variety packs sold exclusively at the aforementioned Binnys, you’re saving $6 and getting the C&E you don’t get otherwise. (Yeah, so you get a Heavy Handed IPA in the Binny’s selection. Can’t win ‘em all.)

Or, look at it this way – think about how much you’d drop at the bar for one of these. Say about four bucks a bottle or draft, maybe? Buy 24 rounds at your friendly neighborhood tavern, and that’s $96 at its cheapest. It’s all starting to add up, isn’t it?

I haven’t done a lot of beer price math otherwise, but this is easily a real steal for Two Brothers afficionados like myself. More importantly, if someone who’s wandering Costco looking for cheap-ish booze comes across this sampler versus another skid-ful of Bud Light, and the price gets this in their cart versus other swill, it’s win-win. More exposure for the Brothers, and quite possibly another convert to the joys of the brewing arts.

Based on my past few visits to the Clybourn Costco, it bears repeating that you should check your mixed case contents before you buy. I have spotted several mixed cases that had been "rearranged" by some jackass who apparently thought that the mixed case concept meant mix and match, effectively meaning you could get a case of all Domaine DuPage or something of that nature (as has been chronicled upthread). And I know of some folks who experienced that even where the case was taped shut (presumably re-taped by some Costco floor person who did not consider that the product mix may have been compromised).

    Quick update:

As of at least last weekend, the lineup in the mixed cases has changed. They no longer include the Cane & Ebel or Golden Ale. Instead are a Hefe and Lager. Definitely not as good of a deal, but I still bought two cases. Hoping the original lineup returns by fall (or sooner).

Also, I would be ecstatic to get a full case of Domaine Dupage. :P
