I followed this link even though it was old. After some time I got an email from Senseo saying I was eligible to receive a "free Senseo" with other stuff like the pods. Since I already have a Senseo and love it I wanted one for work. You do have to pay fifteen dollars shipping charges so I payed by Paypal. They did take it out of my account and I got notice its being shipped. We shall see. What a crazy thing.

I just got my second $15 Senseo on Monday. The first one was white, this one is black, which is what I was hoping for, so I'll give the white one away.

I have no idea if it makes good coffee as I don't drink it. But I do know that I no longer have to clean up the trail of coffee grounds all over the counter from when my wife used to make a pot before heading to the hospital in the morning. That alone will keep a Senseo on our counter for some time ;)

I truly love the Senseo coffeemaker. Love the coffee. I hate really strong coffee but also can' t stand weak coffee either. Senseo makes it kind of the middle. Love the crema top. And I don' t waste coffee now.

    LTH,

Some months ago I succumbed to the free $15 with shipping Senseo coffeemaker offer. I used it 2-3 times, was not appreciative of the coffee it made, to my taste it was weak and lacking in flavor, plus I detest flavored coffee, and gave it away.

    Enjoy,

I got one of these, and I do use it occasionally. I bought some Sumatra "blend" pods at target that are much better than the default coffee, but are still relatively flavorless. It is good when I don't want to make a whole pot (which is rare). I do like the foamy texture.

What I have found the machine is good for is making tea. I take a couple of different flavor tea bags, and use them in lieu of pods. I am sure the notion of forcing super-heated water through a teabag gives real tea-aficionados conniptions, but it works pretty well.

Like nicinchic, I also use it for the occasional decaf drinker. In the whole time I have had it, only once could I give away a flavored coffee. I think Phillips totally overestimated the lifespan of the artificially flavored coffee market. You hardly even see ads for the stuff anymore.

For the decaf-drinkers, I use the Swissgold Single Cup Coffee Maker It has two drawbacks: you have to heat the water, and like a french press you have to dig the grounds out to dispose of them. However, you can toss it in a drawer and it makes a pretty good single cuppa, depending on your grind. I had kept the box on my Senseo, so I donated it to our school (though if you really want one cheap, I notice that they abound at local thrift stores for less than $5)

I don' t use it for flavored coffee but use the medium roast pods. I think it would be too flavorless for Starbucks and other coffee house type coffee lovers. But there are also legions of us who find that coffee way to strong and burnt tasting. For those folks, Senseo is an option.

My free ($15 S&H) Senseo single-serve coffee maker arrived today. Black model. Have to say I rather like the looks of this baby though one thing that bothers me is the fact that the stand portion and base portion attach taking up semi-sizeable kitchen counter space. Would have preferred two separate parts. Anyway, there are a few small parts to this machine - water compartment and its top, base filter, pod holder, pod, and drain catcher. All can apparently be cleaned in the dish washer. That's cool.

The maker came with a pod storage holder and an 18-pod bag of Medium Roast (normal unflavored coffee). I must say, I absolutely love the efficiency of this machine - the cup took about 35 seconds or so to brew. That's nice. I also must really commend Senseo for the frothy cup of coffee prodcued by this machine. Really nice.

However, I did not like the Medium Roast in the least. Relatively tasteless and weak as hell. Would need about 8 of these for every one of my Extra Bold Sumatra or Turkish coffee standards.

That said, the efficiency of it, nice appearance, ease of use, apparent ease to clean and the fact it brews a wonderful looking and textured coffee score big point in my book. Now if I could just find a quality coffee for this machine to brew I could throw away my Mr. Coffee.

Anybody out there who also loves a big, bold tasty coffee that can recommend an Senseo or other workable generic pods for this machine I might like?

    Well,

On my second try using the machine this morning I went with the two pod maker and pushed the one cup button to try and make a bolder cup of coffee. And............it worked. Still really impressed with the frothy/crema texture and appearance of a cup of coffee brewed on this machine - really cool. The taste - well, with two pods and the single serving brew button we're getting pretty close to the strength of coffee I desire but we're not quite there. Also, the coffee made this way does have the bitterness I like but not the taste - it's just bitter, that's it.

Considering the amount of coffee I normally drink - about 12 oz. per day and the fact that a single serve only gives you 4 oz., to make the strength I desire you're talking about using 6 pods a day which means I'd go through a pack of pods every three days. That really drives up the price from my status quo Mr. Coffee morning brew. Maybe I'll just slowly try and wean myself off the bold coffee and try and drink a little less. I don't know.

    Still like the machine though.

Has anyone actually tried these pods?
I think the machine does produce great crema and is fast and easy to use. The coffee, however, lacks any flavor.

I have used other pods in the machine. And you can make your own. I like the senseo pods and find the coffee perfect because I don' t like it strong. They also have a dark roast too.

    Has anybody tried an AeroPress?

Reviews are good, and it's comparatively cheap (only $10 more than the "free" Senseo maker, plus shipping) although it is basically a giant syringe.

SO the machine came yesterday and I brought it to work today-
Mine was black and came with a bag of dark roast pods.
I tried it with French Vanilla pods- (what can I say I like the flavored coffees)
It was really good- I used two pods and hit it with 3 "shots" of water for my extra big mug-turned out great-
no more stale overcooked coffee at work for me :D
Does anyone know if the Tassimo T-discs fit in this machine?

In order to be able to use my own ground coffee I bought a replacement pod holder with filters (Presto my Pod or something like that). It was total junk as the sieve at the bottom let the coffee simply flow down (and no pressure developed) - so no froth, no crema.

This device - the Eco Pad (which I got from an Amazon seller for $10 or so - for two IIRC), however works fantastic. Use the dual pod holder, fill this up with fine ground coffee of your choice and it makes great coffee. The bottom has the same fine mesh as the top, and because it uses the original pod holder lets the froth develop.

I think the ecopods are a great idea if I were using this at home-
but using it at work-I really like the convenience of throwing the pod + mess away, and don't mind spending the extra few cents or whatever for the one cup a day-
The only thing I'm finding is I think it's more caffeinated than what I brew at home, because I've been truly buzzing well into the evening even tho I don't drink a drop after about 11 AM!
I may try the decaf pods-

Similar to Senseo, Gevalia also has an offer 10$ (no S&H) offer for a cafeemaker and two bags (I guess around one pound each). And the coffee is pretty good!

It initially registers you for a monthly coffee shipment but you may prefer to arrange the delivery frequency or opt out without any charges.

:D I've actually done this two or three times - when our coffeemaker or carafe gave out, I'd just sign up for a new one. I didn't think much of the coffee (under-roasted) so we always cancel after the first batch, but the coffeemakers are pretty good standard models and definitely worth $15. Gevalia doesn't seem to mind.

Oh yea, I've done the Gevalia thing a couple of time, too-
I don't care for the ultra fine grind of their coffee-
makes it too bitter for me,
and I really can't be bothered to grind my own-
maybe in some other lifetime where I have HAHAHAHA spare time!
