We have tix to a movie preview tonight, and not a lot of time for chow. Any recommendations for a quick bite beween State & Clark on Roosevelt or thereabouts?
Barring that, what's open late in that neighborhood for apres cine?

Eleven City Diner (old-school deli wannabe) is right there and shouldn't take long. I'm not a big fan but my coworkers like it. There's a Malnati's a few blocks away (order ahead).

Are you going to the Icon? They have food there (can't vouch for its quality) and half the novelty is eating during the movie. We've been to Muvico several times and while the food's not great, it's also not bad.

Manny's is close by as is White Palace Grill, both fast and decent for a quick bite, White Palace is open 24 hours... if you want something really quick, Jim's (also 24 hours) is down the street although not sure if you want a Polish before sitting through a movie if you are planning on eating before hand...

For a nicer restaurant, although may not be as quick, Zapatista, Flo and Santos, Chicago Firehouse, Opera, all near by...

The movie theater is nice and the bar upstairs does have food... Haven't tried the food, but hear its not bad...

    Thanks for the quick responses.
I'd thought White Palace Grill was declared no longer fit for LTH eating -- much as I want another notch on my GNR belt, the last reports sounded kind of frightening.

Yes, I am going to the Icon -- I'm not sure food-in-the-theater is available at all of the shows, I thought it was only a few screens, and it's doubtful that they'll take those high-profit seats up for a preview.

My other choice is a quick cab down to Chinatown after the show. I'm pushing for that option. MrsF is pushing for grabbing Panera sammys on the way to the train from burb-land.

At Icon, food in the theater is only available in the VIP seats in two theaters... but you can eat up in the bar before or after... Here is the menu if you want.. http://www.showplaceicon.com/RCMenu.pdf

As far as White Palace, I might be in the minority, but I still like it... Quick, cheap and decent diner food... Don't go there expecting more... If you are looking for something special though, I agree, go elsewhere...

How about sandwiches to go from Panozzo's, at 13th and Michigan? They are open weeknights till 7.

Or a quick stop at Cafecito (Congress between State and Wabash) before continuing with mass transit?

With doubt in my mind, leaving the Kerasotes Icon to the West didn't seem prudent -- it'd be a longer hike back to the El, and prospects of something truly awful had me head east.

Unfortunately, all the restos near the El (Bongo Room, 11 City and a couple others) close at 9. So we hopped the red line to the blue line, and back in Rosemont dealt with IHOP. What the heck flavor is "Old Fashioned" anyway? The other syrups are "Blueberry" (kind of sickly sweet, with more maple flavor than the Old Fashioned"), "Butter Pecan" (didn't try), and "STRAW" (I hope they mean berry, but that's by no means a sure thing). Blueberry pancakes and sausage were OK, MrsF was pleased to actually get over-easy eggs with quite runny yolks, but her hash browns were far too limp (memo: ask for crisp if there's a next time).

For that kind of food, you shoulda gone to White Palace. Sure, it's nothing special, but it beats IHOP by a large margin.

    Eleven wouldn't let us in.
We weren't up for pizza (especially the wait).

A little while back, I went to Eleven City Diner about 45 minutes before their listed closing time. When we walked in the door, they first told us that they were closed, and when I mentioned that I thought they stayed open later, the woman then exhaled loudly and told us that we could order one of the pre-prepared desserts, but that we'd have to finish it in 15 minutes. I thought it was pretty odd and not particularly welcoming, but oh well, it's their business . . . we then headed to Chinatown. In any event, I guess this serves as a warning to make sure that if you go to ECD, you better arrive early enough.
