Just sitting here and reminiscing about the good ol days when i used to walk over to Aldo's Subs on Grand Ave (5500W 2 blocks west of Central Ave) and order the best Italian Sub i have ever eaten. I was privileged to live just a block away from this place and enjoy them the first 20 years of my life, before they closed down due to family issues i believe.
Does anyone else remember this place? I have had Subs all over Chicago including the Alpine sub shop, but nothing has yet to compare to Aldo's. The magic that was Aldo's was the homemade italian dressing they used which stands out among every other place I've been to. They kept it in squeezable ketchup bottles and shook up the oil/vinegar for each sub and drenched the sandwich with all it's glory. Not to mention the fresh deli meats carved on-site, the fresh bread delivered daily, and the large portions. While Alpine comes the closest to matching what Aldo's had, the Italian dressing sets them apart.
Is there such a place that still exists?
