(Ctrl+F or whatever find function your browser has should make that fairly easy.) But I agree that a lot of recommendations are for things that are not that special.
I haven't been back to LA since I started my internet food obsession but I used to go a lot and I never found a book whose suggestions seemed worth the bother-- a lot of recommended spots for burgers, Mexican, whatever were no better than places I'd just stumbled on here. I am looking forward to whenever my next trip turns out to be, and hope to do better at long last thanks to places posted about here.
A couple of points on this post and also this thread:
I've met a few of the LA hounds, and they would fit in right at home here, with our eating (and other) sensibilities. I think if you just distill down to the core group on that board, Chino Wayne, Russkar, Jerome, Dorothy, WLA, MC Michael, Sandra W, you will get very good advice. You may try to contact some of those people specifically.
Jonathon Gold is a pro, not a poster on LA Chowhound. His book, Counter-Intelligence, on eating in LA is one of my all time favorite food books. It's quite the guide to where and what to eat.
Gold writes weekly for the LA Weekly, and most of his stuff, including things in the book are on their
web site.
