I searched, we don't have a dedicated thread to Bachelor Parties.

I'm putting together an email for the bachelor, going to lay out the places I think will be a good fit for the group (and especially for him).

Large group, some picky, non-adventurous eaters. Obviously, loud, fun, jovial, view, atmosphere can all be important. I've leaned pretty heavily to steakhouses, trying to break out of that without going too far "out there" for people who would think Sepia is too far "out there."

Here are the places I have laid out so far:

    Nacional 27
    Nine
    Gibson's
    David Burke's
    Gene and Georghetti's
    Custom House

    What else would you add?

    edit:

I'll add that I've been to a bachelor party at Red Light, which is a decent asian-influenced bachelor party dinner for a big group.

Not having been to Alhambra - would that make sense? Assuming the food is pretty vanilla?

Ruth's Chris is the obvious choice: steaks, lobster, booze, proximity to Division Street. They have private rooms upstairs that can easily accommodate a group of guys, leaving them free to have fun without bothering the other diners. This is a great place for a bachelor party.

I went to Gibson's a year ago for my bachelor party. We had a private room for about 16 people and everything from the service to the food was top notch. We had a great experience and I could not recommend it highly enough.

Thanks for the info Tmccarthy - got a question for you - what was the additional cost on getting a private room?

Wanted to report back - we ended up at Nacional 27. They had an amazing deal for large groups: $37/per person for a 4-course meal. It was the real deal too, tons of food, choices of entree for table, all served family style. The atmosphere and service made for a perfect bachelor party dinner, highly recommended.

The Purple Monkey, which is somewhat more than a restaurant, probably serves its share of bachelor parties, and it is apparently under the direction Michael Lachowicz, of fancy French northshore Restaurant Michael and recently opened Wally & Agador's.

In the same vein, looking for a guys night out place, but not a place that drips testosterone. This is a group of guys that used to consider themselves pretty hip in the 90's and wants to have a few drinks in a loud "scene" atmosphere and eat dinner. . . We are in our late 30's early 40's now, so Gibson's and Tavern on Rush, while suggested, seemed to be giving in to the wrong end of the age group. While there are some in the group who are less than adventurous (read: no sushi), we all would like a great meal without needing a nap directly afterwords. It needs to either have a bar scene fit for 40 year olds acting 30, or be near one.

Primehouse fits the hip feel, especailly with the bar next door, but is probably a little high priced and too meat focused.

    Sunda? Epic? Mercadito?

Epic is pricey as well but would give you the vibe you're probably looking for...

Can't speak to the bar scene at either Sunda or Mercadito but I would probably put Mercadito ahead of Sunda in the hip lounge-vibe category.

    Have you thought about Carnivale?

the place is enormous, stylish, has a lively bar scene, a menu that features dishes from all corners of Latin America and is probably one of the top "girls night out" destinations in the city, i.e. lots to look at. For a guys night out, I don't think you can go wrong here.
    Cheers,

I recently hosted a bachelor's party at San Soo Gab San for Korean BBQ. Hip, lounge scene its not. But for fire + meat + male bonding, it couldn't get better.
I'm sure the other Korean BBQ joints in town would also be great. SSGS had the space to fit a dozen or so of us (and probably beyond). About $50 a piece w/ abundant drinks and of course, covering the bachelor.

old town social is a good pick...you can transition easily from dinner to drinks and it does get slightly scene-y as the night goes on. if you call ahead they can be helpful in accommodating a large group in a more private area.

Well, we ended up at Mastro's. So much for ditching the testosterone dripping, expensive steakhouse. On the plus side the vibe was more hip than any other steakhouse these days, and there was a definate scene.

The meal was darn good. I put my review on the fledgling Mastro's thread. In all I would reccomend it for a group of guys, on a pretty high budget, looking for that feeling that they know where all the cool places are. . . so it fit our group pretty well.

I had mine at Sabatino's. Martini's and bs'ing with the staff and patrons at the bar, couple bottles of wine and chef's cut 20oz NY's for dinner, mixed seafood salad(ask for it cold) to share, and we got out of there for about $100 a head. It was perfect, and I have since left Chicago, so fond memories...

    Bump.

Not necessarily looking for a full dinner, but more a bar package and some bites for a few hours before moving on. Their engagement party was at Old Town Social and the wedding reception is at Gibson's, so those are out. We don't have a set number of people yet but it looks like it will be 15-25. Would probably like to keep it in the River North to Old Town, Wicker Park to West Loop area. It would be nice if we could keep it in the $50-60 per head range. We have at least one (brother of the groom) vegetarian. And I'm pretty sure the majority are fairly unadventurous when it comes to dining.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

(Oh, this will be on a Thursday, if that helps. December 29th to be exact.)

The Bedford, and Frontier would be some good choices, with private/semi private spaces in Wicker Park area.

I was surprised at the relative affordability of the partial buy-out packages at The Violet Hour when my wife was planning some events there. I don't recall exact numbers, but I think on a Thursday they might be able to accommodate your group at pretty close to that budget.

Revolution Brewing has a great upstairs space (if you're willing to go a little further Northwest than Wicker Park). Beer is among the best available in the city right now (I think) and the food is always enjoyable. More details available here: http://revbrew.com/sites/revbrew.com/fi ... ckages.pdf

And they have a pretty solid selection of vegetarian stuff, even vegan.
