Can, no pun intended, anyone tell me what Starkist and Chicken of the Sea did to canned tuna fish?

Isn't tuna fish suppose to be a flakey, semi-firm, white meat, I love it best in olive oil, for sandwhiches, instead of that emulsified, mushed cat food their selling instead. Please don't tell me we over fished that resource too and their substituting "Albacor" instead? Yuk!

I'm afraid to contact the manufacturer I know they'll just make something up and that would make me angry, and they wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

No, really anybody know what they did? Thanks, The Muskie Kid.

I rarely buy canned tuna because only canned tuna is "flakey, semi firm, white meat." Tuna to me is the other red meat when it's not boiled in salt water, and thrown into the fray of machine sealed shelf stable meats. I do like canned tuna, but I like fresh tuna more. So all that aside, here's my thought: read the can you are buying. IIRC, the tuna canners label their products. Just from memory, there is:

"Solid White" (which I would assume you are looking for, and I hope you didn't get because that would mean it's all messed up)

"Chunk Light" which has some off colored, and some white.

Anything not labeled either of those two above will be cat food mush.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

As far as canned tuna goes, as my palate has developed I find that for commercial brands, only Costco's and Bumblebee in the gold can are worth buying. The Italian brands in olive oil are good too. But the other store brands tend to suck.

Albacore is the only tuna that can be marketed as "white meat tuna" in the U.S. And it is available in three variations: flaked, chunk, solid. Apparently you have been buying the flaked version (or maybe Puss 'N Boots brand).

Try an olive-oil packed Italian/Portugese/Spanish import. Pricey, but really good.
