I've heard from someone else that Kelly specifically requests that people not recommend Sun Wah to Check Please.

Seeing as I saw them on Food Network a couple months ago, I think the cat is out of the bag. I couldn't be happier for them.

At Christmas dinner the family of 4 sitting next to me was from out of town. The young boy is a big fan of food shows and had seen Sun Wah featured and put it on the family's must-try list. All night long he had his eyes peeled for Peking Duck appearances and quickly pointed out each one as it emerged into the dining room. His excitement built with each sighting until finally their very own arrived tableside. As they were unaware that the duck soup and duck fried rice were included they had ordered other dishes that they munched on while they awaited their duck. They left a very happy - and full - family.

While the cat's out of the bag I don't believe the program that featured them has the same effect as Check Please (or Diners, Drive-In's and Dives - of which SW is none of the above, of course). Let's just hope that Adam Richman doesn't show up and film himself trying to eat 6 ducks or something equally silly.

Or that GQ's Alan Richman shows up and declares it the Best Peking Duck in America!

This veg seemed familiar, but can't remember having it before. Ong choy flavor with a bit of radicchio bite. Kelly said raw it looked a little like romaine lettuce.

Picked up a bunch of take out this afternoon about 2:00 just as the snow was starting. Soft shell crab (damn I love those things) egg rolls, pork fried rice, medium barbecued pork, pan fried shrimp with hot pepper, wonton soup with noodles. It'll hold us for a day or so. We're both staying home tomorrow.

i went to sun wah for the first time on tuesday, and i think i have a new spot on my list. the food was soooooooooooooo good. i ordered a small roast pork, roast duck, eggplant with garlic, and fried rice with duck. everything was delicious. one thing i did see other people get that i wish we had ordered were those steamed buns and veggies and peeople were filling them with meat. is that a special entree or do you just order that instead of fried rice???

o and when we were leaving i saw them hanging up ribs in the front window. i will definitely be trying that next time

I think what you are describing is the duck service. The steamed buns and veggies are all part of the peking duck. Its a 4 course meal (I think it is $35 now) which includes the carved duck, duck soup, duck fried rice and sorbet. Click back on earlier pages for images and better descriptions. It just may make you want to run back there asap. But not today. They are closed on Thursdays. :)

Every time I go to Sun Wah, I order the duck and we get other things such as the bbq mixed plate, mike's chicken, broccoli with oyster sauce, pan fried noodles, etc etc etc. I wanted to know if there was anything else special that you had to call and pre-order that anyone would recommend? I'm going next week and want to try a few new things.

    Thanks

We had another stellar meal at Sun Wah yesterday: a massive lunch which my fressers--I mean my family--ate with delight. For 10 of us (one pescatarian), we had two Beijing ducks. Yesterday was the first time a waitress told me that we could have duck pan-fried noodles instead of duck fried rice with the service. Since we had 2 ducks, we got one rice and one noodles, and, boy, the noodles (the thin ones they use for Singapore noodles) were great. I'm enjoying them for lunch now! The usual suspects were also consumed, including Mike's fried chicken and house-cured bacon with Chinese broccoli, but we tried the fried whitefish, which was very good, and the fried shrimp, which I didn't taste but was told were tasty. The mild duck soup was especially good yesterday.

I do recommend the duck pan-fried noodles option--the "wok's breath" was evident and there were big pieces of duck in it, along with pea pods, a little carrot, and a few slices of zucchini.

When I went on Friday we ordered two ducks and got one thing of rice and one of the pan fried noodles and I couldn't agree more EvA, the noodles were just as good if not better the next day.

We got whole roast (cold) chicken to go. I'm not a huge fan of cold poultry, but the sauce that came with it was fantastic! Unfortunately, it was just a thimble-full. The sauce had green onion/ scallion and was salty. Does anybody know what it is?

This is Scallion ginger sauce with another method here. Whatever you do: keep this in the refrigerator and not on the counter.

My wife and I made our first visit on Friday. We really loved it. The place was pretty empty when we arrived around 5:15. We ordered the chinese broccoli w/oyster sauce, bbq combination w/rice and Mike's Fried Chicken. The quality to value ratio is just insane. All of that food for like 14 bucks and change. We loved all of it. Can't wait to get back with friends and do a Peking duck dinner. Highly recommend to everyone.

I'm going to Sun Wah with the in-laws in a couple of weeks, so I am combing this thread for ideas on what to order. I pre-ordered a duck. Also, I see frequent references to "Mike's chicken". Do I order it by that name?

    Thanks, Jen

    Jen--

How many people will be having dinner at Sun-Wah? 4?

If 4, I would recommend the following: the duck, a small order of the mixed BBQ and whatever veggie is the freshest that the server recommends. This is more than enough for 4 people, and gives you a chance to taste what they do best--the BBQ.

If you have more than 4, I would toss in a noodle dish, a seafood dish or Mike's chicken. Matter of taste, but I would take the BBQ over the chicken.

Thanks everyone! We will be 8, so I will take all of those under advisement! We will definitely add the noodles, as my daughter loves all manner of noodles. Also, we can then take both the BBQ and the chicken!

Over the Christmas holidays, I took 12 of my inlaws to Sun-Wah.

We ordered: 2 ducks, 2 orders of oysters with black bean sauce, 1 large platter of BBQ combo, an order of baby bok choy, and order of the house cured bacon with mixed veggies, 1 off menu order of egg fu young and 1 order of stuffed tofu with shrimp.

If I had to change it, I would have removed the egg fu young (never touched) and the order of stuffed tofu (barely touched) and 1 of the oysters and would have put in Mikes Chicken.

We didn't put in noodle dish, bc when you order 2 ducks you get a duck fried rice and a duck lo mein.

My point is (I have one. Really.) that you might want to order 2 ducks for eight people. You will get a noodle dish and 1 duck for 8 might be stretching it too thin.

While we brought home leftovers, there was very little duck left.

Point taken-- it would be good to have rice and noodles too. Also, I love that duck as leftovers!

With emphasis on blow out meals of Peking Duck, whole pig and Mike's Fried Chicken one tends to forget the joy of a quick simple Sun Wah lunch of shrimp wonton soup or fish fillet with chow fun or crisp thin wheat noodle.
