Spotted: in the occasionally open, usually closed storefront immediately to the west of Ghareeb Nawaz, new awning and banners in the window which appear to indicate a branch of the Suadi
Al-Baik fried chicken chain. I was immediately skeptical as some of the language on the banners was a bit odd - "haleem" "nihari" - certainly not things this Arabian KFC competitor is known for.
After a little google research, I learned that Al-Baik ripoffs are quite common around the globe (known as "Al-Faiks" in the twitterverse).
I'm kinda sad we aren't getting an Al-Baik. They are well known for broasted chicken, and I think Bourdain paid a visit on his trip to Saudi. No matter, I still appreciate the blatant trademark infringement, and will always welcome a new nihari/haleem specialist. Unfortunately, that location is a bit cursed, so we will see how it goes.
