Anyone know if this an up, down, or sideways move in quality? I didn't check the price because I wasn't prepared to purchase as I really liked the the straight Kirkland brand both for quality, taste, and price.

Niles carries them both. The Berrio was closer to the main aisle and the Kirkland was buried in the oil/spice aisle.

While some tasters found this oil “sweet” and “buttery” with “medium body” and “slight spice at the end,” others complained that it had “zero olive flavor” and was “so floral it’s almost like eating perfume”; still others noted a “bitter” aftertaste. In pasta, it was “extremely mild” to the point of being “boring.”

I bought it on Saturday at the Niles store. I didn't notice a Berio replacement (at least not yet). Glad I just picked up another bottle.

I buy the Kirkland "Estate" variety in the square bottles when it's fresh (last time I looked, the Mt Prospect store still had 2009 harvest), it's a bright, spicy oil. Lately, I've bought the Berio-produced "Kirkland Signature" organic in the 1.5L bottle. It's a decent price (although I don't remember what I paid for it), very sweet and mild, with a good olive aroma. Optimally, I'd have both around for different uses.

I didn't buy it because I wanted to do a little research first. But I think I'll head back soon to pick up a bottle. The mint plants are picking up and I've got to start using them.

I truly wonder how many of these they might be able to sell.

I personally think that Costco is trying to appeal to the tin-foil hat crowd with this offering.

A couple of these packages would be perfect for them. I lived in Salt Lake City years ago, when I started looking to buy a house most had huge storage areas in the basement where all this food and water was kept. Seemed very strange at the time.
