    So I grew up outside chicago and used to eat pizza every Friday while I was younger. Well, since moving to Chicago for college I've only ordered pizza twice. Both times the pizza sauce has been close to inedible; It has been extremely sweet. I was wondering if this seems to be the "norm" in Chicago or have I just been really unlucky...........Also if you have any recomendation for a good thin crust, lmk!

    100% agree about D'Agostino's sauce. Sickeningly sweet.

    yeah...not a D'Ag's fan either--to me, their sauce is a lethal combo of cloying sweet and bell peppers. Pass. For delivery of basic, decent thin crust with a good sauce, we like Serio, Malnati's, Apart, My Pie on Damen and Calo's--pretty wide range of styles among them--Serio is more NY style. My Pie is uber thin crust. Apart is a bit of cross between the two (and they have a lot of topping options). Malnati's is probably my favorite delivery because it reminds me the most of Barnaby's but I know that's not for everyone either. Any of these should improve on what you've had thus far :D

    I haven't seen much about it on the boards, but I quite liked the pizza at Redflame at 2417 N. Clybourn. They use a two step cooking process that gives a nice char on the bottom but allows for more toppings than you would get on a Neapolitan or New York style pizza.

    While some places do have a sweet sauce, I would say most don't. Just keep trying places that we mention, and if you need to ask about the sauce, we'll let you know. D'ags is really sweet. You probably picked the sweetest sauce in the city by going there. Another place you will want to avoid is Aurelio's, a local chain primarily in the south suburbs that also has a sweet sauce. I happen to like both places for a change of pace, but I can eat pizza for days on end.

    If you are in the city and you want a classic thin crust Chicago pizzeria, my choice for you is GNR winner Marie's Pizza on Lawrence. Get the thin crust, ask for it crispy (if you like that), and have a good time. If you are closer to the south side, go for Vito and Nick's.

    Another one to avoid if you don't like the sweet is Palermo's. We called their sauce "sugar sauce" when I was growing up. I wouldn't say sweet sauces are the norm for Chicago thin crusts (I mean, if they were, we wouldn't pick on Palermo's for having a sweet sauce), but they're not exactly uncommon. When I read the thread title, I knew you were going to ask about some pizza place's sugar sauce.

    it's funny, I grew up on the east coast and to my taste buds, chicago style sauce is LESS sweet than most east coast style sauces.

    I would guess that maybe you've just been unlucky.
