I didn't bring my camera last bbq, but here are a few from the june 25th one which i forgot to post about.

While we were waiting for snacks to show up or food to be done cooking we picked up this at the mexican food cart. Yes, it's as big as it looks. It was a crispy (fake chicharon?) shell topped with various toppings and pickled pork skin. For $5 it was a steal when you're in need of a snack at montrose harbor and feeling adventurous.

One of the highlights of the day was this peach and basil salad that LTHer Yumi brought. I don't recall her LTH name. If i remember correctly, she was recently introduced to the forum through another LTHer she met at a different cooking meetup. The salad was awesome, really fresh flavorful peaches complimented very well by the basil. I'd love to get the recipe someday!

Here's the turkey, post bacon wrap removal. The twice smoked bacon is always a treat!

    Image

And gastro gnome ritualistically carving it on the grass. This time we used a cutting board!

    Image

Then Panther in the Den and Linda teleported in just in time to join us. They managed to beam in just in time for turkey. They also brought and smokes some pork chops.

Some home made venison sausage, brought by my friend nate, deer killed and sausage made by his dad.

The tent you'll be looking for when trying to find us.

Everyone is welcome to join us this saturday, the summer is going by so fast, these will be over before you know it!

For those not familiar with this area, know that it can get exceptionally nuts in the Montrose Beach area on these hot weekends. Bumper to bumper traffic with people looking for parking. I don't want to scare anyone away though, but I recommend arriving earlier in the day than later if possible. There are a couple of lots (one closer to Montrose, the other closer to Wilson) that may not fill up as quickly, but would involve a short walk.

Hope you get a good turnout this weekend!

i believe the 78 bus can get you there from both Red (wilson) and Brown (montrose) line trains and would likely mean a LOT less hassle.

Very true, but also gets stuck in the bumper to bumper cluster that happens as parking becomes more scarce. Again, I don't want to scare anyone away. Much of what I refer to happens later.

I usually get there at 10:00 or 10:15 and there are numerous spots open right by us, literally less than half full. by 1:00 is when it starts to fill up. Nobody has ever had trouble parking in the pay lot that is nearby and if i recall correctly i believe it's only $1 or $2 per hour, so just similarly priced as a parking meter. Honestly though, at most hours of the day, most people find a free spot with a little bit of patience. It's well worth the hassle! See you there!

P.S. I'm bringing a couple Moroccan spiced venison meatloafs. Not sure if i should smoke it or grill it, maybe one of each?

I've been meaning to attend your picnics but the timing hasn't always worked out with our schedule. We hope to visit when it's a little bit cooler (it's just way too hot for us) though!

Yumi is aka LTHer ymas. I introduced Yumi to the forum since she is quite foodie within my 'What's Cookin, Chicago' Meetup group. I'll reach out to Yumi and let her know you'd like the recipe for her peach & basil salad.

Sure it didn't look nice this morning, but intellicast says it's passing, with a mere 10% chance of isolated showers! Weather channel says 30% chance of isolated showers. Not a deal breaker. We'll be there with an 11x11ft tent in case we need shelter. We're heading out now, 10:00, so we'll be a little later than normal, but we'll be there. See you there! :D

Me and the family had fun with the folks who made it out Saturday.

    thoughts:

    - parking was easy to find @ 10:00 a.m. on this day
    - great view of the lake while grilling
    - good tastes of venison meatloaf, and some Ream's sauasages
    - beer drinking(I used more beer in my cooking than I drank), but as posted upthread I believe, dont act the fool and you shouldnt have a problem.

With summer ticking away fast we will do our best to do another one of these.

I have got to make it to the next one, and promise to bring the BSK on a hitch, to boot.

hope to see you there. Just a reminder, that the next one is on 8/13. It's typically every other week, but since these are slated for the 2nd and 4th weekend of the month, we'll be going an extra weekend without a bbq. hope nobody got confused.

My guess is that there will only be 2 more official bbq's (for me at least). Since the LTH picnic is on sept 11th, we've called off the bbq on the 10th. Or as some suggested, we are going to simply move the operation to the LTH picnic. My guess is that these 2 in august will be the last 2 for the summer. These really went by fast. hope to see a lot of you guys here this august!
