We're currently glued to Al Jazeera English on hubby's old, cranky Mac laptop (neither of the newer computers has speakers). Where would be the best place to have some yummy dinner and soak in the atmosphere of people celebrating the fall of Tripoli?

We're in Albany Park, so there should be a bunch of choices, no? George's Kabab Grill pops to mind, mostly because of the huge TV screen - although half the time it's playing cheesy pop videos rather than Al Jazeera. Any other thoughts?

Check Dawali - definitely my favorite restaurant in Albany Park, and they have a very new, updated interior - it wouldn't surprise me if they have a flat screen or two in there somewhere.

I can't remember for sure, but maybe call. The food is always great - if they have some TVs I'd say you are in business.

Love the thought of mingling with the local Libyan community tonight.

I imagine that many Libyans are probably at home with their friends or family, making calls back home to make sure everyone is OK.

George's is an Assyrian/Iraqi place. You could try one of the North African restaurants, none of them Libyan of course, but who knows, perhaps people are watching. Tassili (Algerian) on Elston and Shokran (Moroccan) on Irving come to mind.

Could also try a hookah cafe. Ugly hookah is pretty popular with the Arabian folks.

Well, dinner is moot - hubby decided we needed to cook up the skirt steak that had been marinating in the fridge for 3 days. I may yet get inspired for dessert, though - as an asthmatic, a hookah cafe is pretty much out of the question.
