On the contrary, they're totally being anti-authoritarian nonconformists. They're just doing it with 1,000 of their closest friends, together, at the same time, in a way that's been done before
The one I saw in Montreal was a much more organized event: there were many long (50ish-foot) tables with white tablecloths & white chairs, fancy china place settings, and white tuxedo-clad waiters serving catered food. So I'd assume that was a pricey, ticketed event.
