Oops--just checked and I don't have any extra aluminum pans--I do have the sterno and the warming trays. I'll bring them an hope that someone else can bring the pans...

Gorgeous day, great food, great friends.
    Thanks one and all.

    Faves:
Neapolitan Marshmallows (M'sieu Bonaparte would probably be amused)
Lion Loin on Polenta (pretty tame tasting for game, but the polenta and sauce were awesome)
    Ronnie's rolled cured meats
Quintuple Chocolate cupcakes (needed a big glass of cold milk after that)
    Too many others to mention.

Thanks to everyone who made today possible. The food was great, the people friendly, and I'm already looking forward to next year.

Walking up to the site and seeing a hundred people was a bit daunting. Everyone seemed to know each other, and me being one of the new guys, I wasn't sure if there was some sort of Kennyz hazing ritual.
    Image
There was not. Kennyz is a really nice guy.

I thought I was the last to arrive, and I was amazed to see the amount of food we had. But no, this was not the end. The food just kept on coming.

A fraction of what we had:

I cannot cook worth a lick, so I'm very happy I was able to contribute with a couple baylor watermelons
    Image

Ronnie's Limoncello was fantastic, and the cherry limeade...I need more of that in my life.
    Image

Met some people I very much admire - received some compliments, borrowed a knife from stevez, traded melons with Cathy2...certainly, a great day.

Still, I'm very upset that I didn't try to talk to more of you. Nerves got the best of me. Was having a nice conversation with Ronnie, and I meant to say, "You're my photography idol." What came out was, "ronnie_suburban, you're my hero."

That's when I knew it was time to go home.

Great photos -- thanks for sharing. It was nice to meet you and your guest. The picnic can be a little daunting and I'm glad you made it out. I started with small events before I had the courage for the holiday party or picnic. By then, I knew a handful of folks. Sometimes, you just have to jump in. Hope to see you again at another event!

Truly a beautiful day for this gathering of friends and food! Thanks to Cathy, Michelle, Mary and everyone else who had a hand or 3 in planning and executing this event--you made a lot of people very happy :P

And, of course, the food exceeded all possible expectations. My faves were Attrill's beef and burnt tomato bruschetta, JoelF's deviled eggs, Pairs4Life's chickpea and eggplant salad, mbh's peach and mint salad, MHays' Causa Limena, Jazzfood's salsa crudo (which is truly shocking to me since there were a number of ingredients in it that I typically don't love!!), JustJoan's tomato pie, Louisa Chu's chocolate tres leche cake and Hammond's brown butter and sea salt cookies. And there were probably a dozen other things that I loved as much but can't remember because there were so many wonderful things!!

How long till we know the date for next year???

After I finished laughing, incite's post made me remember the only thing I had "2" of--Ronnie and Alan's Limoncello--mmmmm....

And don't worry incite--you're already in on a true "insider" LTH secret...the real Kennyz

Glad we were able to meet and I hope we'll see you at more events! Your pics will certainly help us all remember the great day!

Could any day have been more special? Particularly given the heartwrenching complexities of keeping this site thriving, it was so good to see the principals who have nourished this site from the beginning, enjoying themselves, each other, and the food. It was clear that LTH remains strong and vibrant.

Incite's photos will give mhill and Ronnie_Suburban (and a few others) a run for their money in the culinary documentary photography category.

While there was so much grand food, I have to give a nod to mbh's Watermelon, Feta, and Mint salad, and I am grateful that she made such a big bowl, so I could take some home to remember the picnic for a few more days.

We had a great time! Everyone was very nice and it was great to put faces to names. The food was amazing and I can't believe how much there was. Thanks to all those who put this together and for everyone's generosity!

I was so glad to make it this year as I had missed the picnic last year. Another perfect event with great company, fantastic food and beautiful weather. (LTH must surely have a blessing from the weather gods as I remember the weather being perfect for every LTH picnic I've been to.) It was great to reconnect with folks I hadn't seen in a while. Thank you Cathy, Michele and Mary and all who did the huge amount of planning work.

This was my first event too and though I didn’t get to meet everyone, it was great to meet some of you. My favorite thing about LTHers is their passion. What a fun and interesting group. Kudos to the planning team!!

I love this picnic, and not just for the food. You people, are lovely. OK, back to the food. My favorite bite: deviled egg with prosciutto wrapped micro asparagus. Other favorites: Coca Cola Cake with Broiled Peanut Butter Icing, homemade Neapolitan marshmallows, Damson tart (Zwetschgendatschi), two varieties of limoncello (both different from each other), ham wrapped melon, mushroom tart, Causa Limena, watermelon, mint and feta cheese salad, pairs4life's jams, migliaccio dolce di semolino (recipe please?), and thank you to those who brought the Baylor melons and Mario's Italian Ice. I've been hearing about those for years...they were great! This is always the culinary highlight of the year for me. Thanks to Cathy2 and all those who put in the extra hours of planning and preparation. It was truly appreciated.

jen: i'm delighted that you enjoyed my tomato tart-it's all about picking the right tomatoes(meaty, almost no pulp or seeds). i apparently confused several people with the sign on the brown butter/sea salt cookies which were mine, not hammonds. i was expecting him to bring cookies labeled 'the worlds greatest cookie', so i wrote 'maybe not the world's greatest cookie but pretty damn good' on the box. joan

Glorious day. The weather was perfect. As always, the people were wonderful and the food was amazing.

I can't remember everything I ate, and I know I missed about half of what was on offer, because humans fill up so fast with only one stomach, but among the things that stand out in my memory are Ronnie-Suburban's cured-meat rollups, boudreauliscious's amazing noddles (both varieties), the papas bravas with chorizo sauce (took some home, and it seems even better today, though maybe that's because I'm not so full), the pastrami reubens, the cucumber and onions in sour cream (still eating that), the fabulous raw-milk cheese, Cahty2's heirloom tomato salad, and just about everything smoked (a fair number of really wonderful sausages and salamis).

As for sweets -- I'm not really a sugar person, so I didn't eat many of those, but the two things that attracted me were both astonishingly good, and those were JustJoan's brown sugar cookies with salt and the salted nut bars (JoelF, I think)

I loved the corn-on-the-cob that Cathy2 brought and I finally got to try Baylor melons. I also enjoyed the Sangria, and it was fun to taste Ronnie's lemoncello, having never had it before. And the lion from nr706 -- it's a hoot to know there will be game to sample every year (though the sauce and polenta base were tastier than the lion itself, the chief virtue of the lion being that it was lion).

Thanks most especially to Cathy2, but also to Michele and Mary for all the work. And thanks to everyone who brought food, pitched in to set up or clean up, and who offered such pleasant company.

I'm sure that as thanks and photos are posted, a lot of things will show up that will trigger, "Oh, yeah -- that too" thoughts. But the above were the most memorable.

    Truly, a perfect day.

Thanks to all for a wonderful afternoon with amazing food! This was the first time in 4 years that we've been in town for the picnic weekend, and it was great to see old friends and to get to meet in person other posters that I had known only by their writings. I sampled more good things than I can remember ... and there was so much more that looked good that I couldn't manage to find room for!

Looking forward to the next gathering (holiday party?)

Just wanted to add my thanks and appreciation to everyone else's. And am realizing, with sadness on many fronts, that tigers are endangered - so even given future picnic attendance I will not be able to claim the Yellow Brick Road game trifecta :(

The spouse did ask me to point out that if EvA had made mini cheeseburgers, she'd have had a traef-fecta.

Delicious food and good company - and I'm sorry I was in a bit of a dither due to a busy weekend, and didn't get to meet and greet the way I'd have liked to.
