    Hi,

Driving past on Saturday, I did a double take when they advised, "Coal fired pizza." I know nothing else about this place.

I dont know anything about the place either - except that it *is* real coal-fired pizza, apparently (used to be a Steak place IIRC?) And that theyve been around for a while, I remember seeing the signs a year ago, last summer! This is in the Abell's Corner area IIRC.. ie not quite *in* Elkhorn per se, but on US-12 itself.. right by where there was a Spring Creek Inn (?) or some such, a place which does a decent breakfast (Ive eaten there in the past - typically solid WI breakfast - not quite up to "Soups on" up in Fort Atkinson, but pretty good). Looking at the menu, the prices for Holi Cannoli are really quite high for the area...

We were at a friend's house in Whitewater this weekend and they said that the pizza there is really good. Unfortunately they were closed on Saturday when we had a chance to go, so we wound up eating at the place next door (which was mediocre).

 I just don't get it. Why do so many restaurants have terrible websites?! Don't they realize that a good looking picture is sometimes all you need to entice someone to try your food? This website has no pictures of their pizza or anything else except one picture of some not so great looking pasta. Prices seem fair for 16" pizzas.

It depends on what you want for a website. I LIKE THAT WEBSITE as it:

    1) Has no irritating music.
    2) Has the COMPLETE menu WITH PRICES.
    3) Everything is laid out VERY CLEARLY.
    4) Has NO bogus testimonials or over the top claims.

The only thing that is lacking is a map on the 1st page

I agree with #2-4 on your list, I almost never hear music on restaurant websites and if I do, I just turn the sound off. But food is also a visual thing and they just might get a little more business by taking a few pictures. The LTH Forum itself is proof that the pictures are a big deal to many of us (or dare I say, most of us on here?) and why this website falls short.

That's a pretty great restaurant website to me. Bonus points for the menu not being trapped inside a PDF.

I wish you didn't have to go to facebook to see their specials. Otherwise I wouldn't change much.

We have a weekend house near here and I have to say it's the best restaurant in the area. I cringe that they painted and textured their obviously authentic 1950s knotty pine walls (I like the whole supper club thing up here), but it's a pretty comfortable restaurant for all that. We haven't had their pizza yet as we always seem to find some pasta dish that intrigues us. They have as a special farfalle with tomato cream sauce, sausage, and peppers that is to die for. My husband especially likes the lasagna, and when we were there 2 weeks ago on a Sunday evening, they had a special that was this lasagna and their beautiful house salad for $9. Their marinara is wonderfully flavorful (it came with capellini as a side with my eggplant parmigan, which was also very good), not just some plain tomato sauce as with some Italian restaurants. The first time we went there, in the summer, they had a special appetizer that was grilled asparagus with gorgonzola. Amazing! We brought my sister and her husband there one weekend and had the grilled calamari appetizer by which they judge all Italian restaurants. My sister wiped up the excess sauce with bread, it was so flavorful. Had a wonderful beef and lentil soup there last time.

It is pricey for this area, that's for sure, but the service is excellent, they've got some really interesting wine selections, and the woman who owns the place makes sure you're seated and happy. It seems a family business as our very attentive busboy was obviously a grandson and getting a lot of grief from some regulars who obviously knew the family who owns the place.

We're been next door to the Moose Creek Inn (formerly the Sugar Creek Inn) which has great log walls and some fabulous wallpaper, along with a fireplace, but I really didn't like their fish fry (they potato pancakes were really weird tasting). We went there for breakfast, and their pancakes were quite good. We also like Abell's Corners further down on 12. We haven't had anything bad there. The homemade chicken soup is to die for, as is the cheeseburger club which is the best burger I've had anywhere. The fried chicken is also very good. I wasn't too impressed with their breakfast, but they have the best homemade strawberry shortbread. Silk and meringue pies also are wonderful.

Did I mention we don't really cook much when we're out here?
