I recently ended a two year run as a vegetarian.
What is a good restaurant in Chicago to enjoy my new found carnivorous diet?

One good place to celebrate meat is The Publican.

Surely Fogo de Chao would qualify.

For steaks, David Burke's Primehouse and Chicago Cut Steakhouse. If you go to Burke's, ask them to show you the aging room.

    For prime rib, click here.

I was just reading in today's Tribune what various chefs would choose as their last meal on earth, and a couple of them mentioned a big corned beef / pastrami sandwich at a good Jewish deli, such as Steve's or Manny's.

For barbecue, well there are lots of places for barbecue, and numerous discussions about them here on LTH.

The Purple Pig is a pork centric heaven!

Just wondering whether that's an intentional reference to the owners' other restaurant...

The ribeye at the Publican is one of my favorite cuts of meat here in Chicago. It's got the essence of rosemary and lots of nice fatty bits at the end. So freaking fantastic.

How about the simple pleasure of a hot dog? I know after my misguided vegetarian period, that's the frst thing I wanted.

Not sure I'd start out with a steakhouse or other inflight magazine reco. Here's where I'd start:

    Birria, Zaragoza

    Indo-Pak BBQ, Khan

Korean BBQ, San Soo Gab San

    BBQ BBQ, Uncle John's

    Chinese BBQ, Sun Wah

    Argentine parillada, Tango Sur

    Sausagefest, Resi's, Hot Doug's

Damn tasty burger, maybe controversial, but I'm liking the Gage these days

The pork blade steak with nduja is the perfect dish for a recovering vegetarian. Meat with a side of meat!

Hackepeter, followed by liver dumpling soup, then pick a meaty entree

    Lashet's Inn

In my opinion, a notch above Morton's...The Saloon Steakhouse on Chestnut.
