What a great way to end the year - a lunch of pajeon, sundubu and other Korean delicacies. Along with the Usual Suspects of the LTH North Lunch Group - Cho Jung definitely fits the bill.

The dedicated Cho Jung reviews are here - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=26097&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=cho+jung - along with a 2009 LTH dinner here - viewtopic.php?f=19&t=26162&hilit=cho+jung

Those posts should whet your appetite. Come join us and bring a friend.

I'm hoping to arrange my schedule to be there. Thanks, Dave!

I hope to attend. Thanks, Dave, for setting this up.

This is a great and somewhat misunderstood restaurant. The thing here is the soups/stews, the panchan and the pajeon. I also think the fried mandu and kimchi-tofu-pork dish are very repsectable. I'd advise against wasting your calories, capacity or money on bbq, grilled meats or other, similar items. Also, this is not necessarily a great restaurant to share dishes. Yes, share a few of the aforementioned appetizers but IMO, the best approach is for each person to order their own soup or stew and forego the main courses that one might typically share, as they're not Cho Jung's strong suit. I really love the Spicy Pollack Fish Roe Stew and the Soondubu, both of which I order "spicy."

Again, I really hope to make it to this lunch. It's just a few minutes from my office in Niles, so it's looking favorable.

I'm going to do my best to be there. It's one of my favorite soup destinations in the city. For the record, I fully agree with Ronnie's advice above. Cho Jung's strengths are it's soups and stews.

Although the food at the LTH dinner at Cho Jung was less than perfect (see the thread), I would like to give Cho Jung another go (I agree with Ronnie that the soups were the best part of dinner). I'll be there.

I'm interested in attending if there's a spot available. Like Gary, I was at the LTH dinner event a couple of years ago and would like to give Cho Jung another try.

This couldn't be right - an LTH North Lunch that I could actually make. I'm actually quite interested because I usually say that I don't like the Korean genre of food, but Ronnie's comments about the soups/stews intrigue, so I would like to join. It's on my calendar...

I've updated our reservation with them and we're good to go.

The owner just called me. He's looking forward to our group and will be there tomorrow to answer any questions about the menu and deal with food allergies etc.

This closed out my LTH year in fine fashion! Loved everything today--from the fresh and brightly flavored panchan (the squash with onions in soy vinegar was especially delicious) to the 2 kinds of pancakes to my first foray into pollack roe soup (thanks to culinary guides Pigmon and Ronnie for walking me through the sac bursting process!). I look forward to returning!

    Happy New Year everyone :D

Excellent meal in splendid company. A whole new side of Korean food for me. All good, but especially loved the seafood pancake and the cucumber panchan.

    Thanks to Dave148 for planning.

For me the outstanding dish was the squash and onion panchan in rice vinegar. I enjoyed the pancakes and (bulgogi) hot pot, but the squash was terrific.

Good food and company - the LTH North Lunch Group motto. I'll echo everyone's else's comments. I've never appreciated squash as much as I did in today's lunch. Oma (my grandmother) would have been proud.:D
