I'm going to Brooklyn at the end of the month and have been trying to find a restaurant to have one nice dinner while we are there. 2/3 are vegetarians, and everything I find that is "vegetarian friendly" are cheap diner-ish places or asian restaurants with fake meat all over the menu. I'm just looking for something more Green Zebra-esque. That has to exist out there, doesn't it? Suggestions?

I checked with a friend in Brooklyn and she likes a vegan Indian place called Govinda's Kitchen in Boerum Hill. I know this may not be exactly what you're looking for, but this person has never steered me wrong. Plus, I understand there is an interesting cultural milieu.
One other possibility: Wild Ginger in Cobble Hill http://www.wildgingerny.com/

Does it have to be in Brooklyn? An upscale vegetarian experience can definitely be had in NYC, but every place I can think of is in Manhattan:

    Kajitsu
    Dovetail's Monday Night menus
Scarpetta - there's a separate vegetarian friendly menu
    Dirt Candy
Tulsi - they even have a separate chef's vegetarian tasting
    HanGawi
Cafe Boulud - see the Le Potager section of the menu
Tocqueville - they can also do a vegetarian tasting upon request

I haven't been, but General Greene has been on my list of places to try. Tons of veggie options. The menu doesn't look as refined as Green Zebra, but it's not that far off.

Another idea - - why not Italian?

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Kathryn, I made a reservation at Dirt Candy. Not in Brooklyn, but I decided that it'd be fun to have one night on the town in Manhattan.

REB, good idea on Italian, but last time I was in NY that's what we did for a fancy night out so I just wanted to do something different. Good thinking though. :)
