One third pound of fresh, 80/20 Niman Ranch, lightly done on a flat grill and finished off on a char broiler, but not really charred. I had mine medium rare with Nueske's bacon, American cheese, fresh cut fries topped with Vern's cheddar cheese and a fountain Green River. There is an extensive list of fresh toppings. My cheeseburger was pure burger nirvana! Niman Ranch provides the burger meat for Pearl's Phat Burger in northern California. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mZ9mJNKTs8 Vern's cheese is from Chilton, WI. It's used by two very famous Chicago hot dog stands for their burgers, dogs, and fries. Sprecher's root beer is also available on tap. David Ross aka Dr Dawg is a native Chicagoan and a proud graduate from Hot Dog University.

Add me to the fans of this place. It deserves its own thread. I only had a small taste of the Polish (nicely charred Vienna Beef with perfect grilled onions though skinless) and the Kobe beef dog (not my thing -- no bite), but the char salami was outstanding. I look forward to sampling more of the menu. It seems like everything you'd want in a Chicago-style stand. (Except for the skinless part.)

BTW, Dr Dawg's opened a branch on the south side in the suburb of Greenfield,WI. 7700 West Layton Avenue
Greenfield, WI 53220. I believe they are the only places in the Milwaukee area that serves Scala brand Italian beef & sausage. Here is their website... http://www.drdawg.net/
It's tough being a Bears fan in Cheesehead land!

Which, it should be mentioned, is directly across the street from the Kopp's location at 75th & Layton.

Dr. Dawg for lunch, Kopp's for dessert.

Hmm.... Scala's were being marketed by Best Chicago Meat, but I called them for an article I was writing a couple of weeks ago, and they said that Scala's is not in production now.

dr. Dawgs is right by where my kid goes to HS. Mentioned many times on this forum, and I do not remember a negative. Great guy. I petitioned the mayor when his cart before the opening was in limbo. on the other hand, he stopped carrying malt vinegar. However, may I suggest a "downstream" place, "mike's" is where I go now due to the backstory. I was running an elderly neighbor around town, and she wanted an Italian Beef sandwich. I brought her to Dr. Dawgs, she liked it, but had me drive past "mike's" on Teutonia. Apparently the child was not exactly intelligent, this place was set up by the parents to provide an income after they were no longer with us, etc. nice folks run it, cheaper than Dawgs, not as "clean", etc. nothing spectacular, etc.
