Why is the coffee a guilty pleasure? Do you mean the sweetened drinks or the plain stuff?

I guess coffee is not really a guilty pleasure as long as you don't drink too much of it. But I always end up with the donuts too when I go there.

Love reading all these postings! I had to add my own...

Childhood guilty pleasures: Spaghetti-Os, Bagel Bites, and Ho Hos. Also, second a method for eating Hostess cupcakes upthread: Eating the cake part first, then filling, then frosting. My own personal weird, eating-alone thing: Super vinegary roasted red pepper strips eaten straight from a jar.

This thread also reminds me of one of my favorite food books: Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant: Confessions of cooking for one and dining alone, edited by Jenni Ferrari-Adler, but with chapters contributed by people like Marcella Hazan, Paula Wolfert, and Nora Ephron. Highly recommend it!

My guilty pleasure...I'm completely addicted to "food" stories--and I haven't heard of this one!! Maybe we could do a temporary trade--I have a ton of books like this--care to swap at the Cajun Exchange next week?

I would love to trade some food books next weekend! I have another one that I was thinking of bringing anyways. It's called Gumbo Tales: Finding my place at the New Orleans table, by Sara Roahen. She's not a native New Orleanian, but now she's a food writer down there and the whole book is like her quest to be most like a native as possible, which I always wanted to be when I lived there.

I think we just may have come up with another "LTH Exchange" idea :P

Mellow Creme pumpkins... Mmmm. These guys are pretty much perfect foods, when they're fresh. When they're not, inedible. Much like Red Vines.

This crunchy, crusty, casein clogged comestible is served piping hot and drippy at the lobby bar in the (actually rather cool) atrium of the Ameristar casino in East Chicago. Simultaneously the best and worst thing I've eaten in months, it tastes nothing like either of its namesakes. It is served in gut-busting portions. And yes, you will eat all of it.

I know that Philly's Best have these but I've never tried one. Gyro-mena next door has a gyros variety which I have tried and felt that the grease/roll part of it masked all of the other flavors and was really disappointing.

Ding Dongs? Nah, Ho-Hos... although I've noticed the flavor has changed in recent years, probably as a result of the Hostess/Dolly Madison merger -- it tastes more like the DM version, chocolate is less "dark" tasting. I've given them up.

Other guilty pleasures: Skippy peanut butter on Ritz crackers, Sriracha Peas (like Wasabi Peas but with Sriracha).
