Highly recommend it!

It's called Gumbo Tales: Finding my place at the New Orleans table, by Sara Roahen. She's not a native New Orleanian, but now she's a food writer down there and the whole book is like her quest to be most like a native as possible, which I always wanted to be when I lived there.

Love 'em. Don't know why.

This crunchy, crusty, casein clogged comestible is served piping hot and drippy at the lobby bar in the (actually rather cool) atrium of the Ameristar casino in East Chicago. Simultaneously the best and worst thing I've eaten in months, it tastes nothing like either of its namesakes. It is served in gut-busting portions. And yes, you will eat all of it.

Ding Dongs? Nah, Ho-Hos... although I've noticed the flavor has changed in recent years, probably as a result of the Hostess/Dolly Madison merger -- it tastes more like the DM version, chocolate is less "dark" tasting. I've given them up.

You can blend 'em into a shake.
