Sometime over the past month or so, I saw a thread about this place that had been posted by the owner. I could not find it to join in to it. This week my partner was in the area on business and noticed several new restaurants in this area. This one is in the old Thomas BBQ spot which has been something else in between. She stuck her head in and wound up buying 2 pies for take out to bring home, one vegetarian and one pepper steak. These can be best described as pot pies. My partner liked her spicy mixed vegetables while I was not a fan of the taste, crust and spices of mine. To be said, she loves pot pies a lot while I don't!

Of the menu, the meat pies are Chicken w/mushroom, Pepper steak, Cheeseburger ( I might have liked this but she didn't ask) and Spicy Chicken. The veggie pies are Spicy mixed vegetables or Spinach and Feta. They also have Sausage rolls or a beef pasty. Pies run from 5.29 to 3.49. There is nothing else on the menu, I wasn't there in person, just ate the carry out. She is not one to talk to anyone about background or ingredients so no further information other than "We need to go here sometime". To me, there are other places to try including Taste of Morocco that tcdup recently reported on in the same area.

Thanks tcdup! The menu she brought home didn't show a website but it's identical to the paper she brought home. She was on business over that way and always stops at that bead shop in the same plaza and it caught her eye. There had been a post from the owner here but I couldn't find it.

We gave Pie Boss a try tonight.

My wife and I had the Spicy Chicken pie, while my daughter had the Cheeseburger pie.

Along with that, we ordered a beef pasty to try.

There are a couple of dessert items not on the menu. Some sort of apple pie and something else. Would have tried it, but I didn't want to wait as I ordered by phone for pickup (about 30 mins wait time) and didnt know about them prior to picking up. Next time.

The wife and I really enjoyed the spicy chicken. It had some good flavor to it and a little bit of a kick. The pie crust had a good amount of very thin layers to them and were browned nicely. A small "SC" made of dough on the top delineated it from the "B" of the Cheeseburger.

My daughter was very hesitant to even try Pie Boss, as she is not a pot pie kid. She actually enjoyed it. It was pretty much a mini burger loaf with cheese, wrapped in pot pie dough. It had an odd sweetness to it that I didnt especially care for, but she loved it (as she loves anything sweet)

The pasty, we also liked that, but it was the first one we ever ate so I have nothing to compare it to. If it was supposed to taste like beef stew in a pastry, then thats what it tasted like.

I hope the guy survives for a while, as it was a novelty now but I could see us going a little more regularly in the winter.

Maybe worth a shot if your in the area, but I agree there are quite a few new places opening as the economy starts to show a glimmer of life.

One side note that I forgot about pot pies are the multiple ways of eating them. My wife is a "flipper" and flips them over on a plate and eats from the bottom down to the top. I have always left mine in the tin, then pushed the crust down into the pie filling, leaving the shell to eat by itself. Our daughter trumped us both, dumped it into a bowl and stirred it into a hot mess. Forgot about that part of pot pies until we all say down to eat.

Stopped in today with my wife and sister on the way to an afternoon drive around the Plano and Sandwich areas. Located in a storefront in a strip mall, Pie Boss is a take out place with two 4 seat tables. I had a spicy lamb pie, my wife had a chicken and mushroom pie and my sister had a spicy vegetable pie.

All of us really enjoyed the pies which were really fresh testing and quite generous with the fillings. Unlike other pot pies we've had, we all agreed that these were exceptionally fresh, well seasoned and, in the case of the meat pies, had generous portions of the meat. The spicy pies had a nice blend of spices highlighted by cumin as well as a nice amount of heat that was not overwhelming. While the pies are of South African origin, the spicing was East Indian in flavor. The crust was excellent-flaky and moist. We all agreed if we lived in the area that we would carry out pies often.

The menu is limited to a variety of meat and vegetable pies, the size of a Banquet frozen pie, and pastys as well as a few deserts. Canned pop is available.
