Last week one of the partners at my firm asked me for ideas about putting on a wine and cheese gathering for the firm, there were only about 10 of us that Friday. This was a send-off for one of the attoneys that has been at the firm for a while. Although other festivities were planned they wanted to do something more that the cake and coffee in the morning.
The receptionist in charge of the procurment does not have car and the budget was somewhere around $100. I suggested I could bring in a box of wine glasses from home and the easiest resolution would be to take a cab to the Roosevelt Dominiks and pick up a cheese tray with a couple bottles of wine. I also threw in a few other thoughts, including offering to pick up from Cheese Stands Alone. Then I threw in Fox and Obel, Binnys and Marcy Street Market in Sam's. I had assumed F&O would be way too expensive and doubted they would deliver. As it turns out, if you couldn't tell from the subject line, Fox and Obel was our choice.
They sent over a small but more than ample cheese tray, with a mound of goat cheese, blue cheese, brie, and a few others, the tray was decorated with dried and fresh fruits. They also sent a basket of both fancy and regular crackers, though some seemed a bit stale, perhaps from being kept in a refrigerated/too moist delivery container. The setup was rounded out with three bottles of wine, nothing over the top and all people pleasing, proseco, chard and a nice merlot.
The total was ~$135, not bad considering some of the Loop gouging I have experienced. Quick, painless and not too expensive. This may be a new clutch goto place.
