A quick search turned up one small blurb in the "April - June Openings, Closing" thread.

Sacco Bruno has been open for a few months, with a Friends and Family opening party last weekend. I know the owner through a friend, though I was not in attendance at the party (said friend gave me the scoop). I was visiting my friend in Bucktown last night and we stopped in for dinner. In the main area is a deli, with sandwiches, prepared foods, pizza, drinks - plus some grocery items to purchase. I did not spend much time looking around, as we sat down in back - there is a full bar, TVs and a nice vibe to eat in. You can order from the deli counter in front, or sit down in back and order from a server.

Mostly sandwiches, salads, and some sides. Deli sandwiches served cold, toasted grinders or hot subs. Typical Italian style ingredients (sopressatta, mortadella, etc), plus Chicago style items such as sausage and Italian Beef.

The ingredients are fresh and nicely presented. This has been a haunted location ever since the former art gallery closed and food purveyors took over the corner. We were really impressed with the quality of the ingredients, especially the bread. We both had sandwiches on the french rolls and they were really fresh, perfect amount of chew and good texture. I had the Turkey Provolone, with shaved roasted turkey breast, a spicy provolone and giardiniera.

If you live in the area, stop in and try a few things. Great for a quick lunch or dinner option in the neighborhood.

    Thanks,
    Ellen

My wife and I stopped in to take a look around a month or so ago, but we didn't order anything. It does look like a nice neighborhood option. The folks who worked there confirmed that this place is not affiliated with the Brown Sack on West Armitage.

Personally, I'm looking forward to their new dessert venture, Mango Rosso.

Not affiliated, just liked the name so much they decided to use it too!

Drove by today, this place is closed and dismantled, space is vacant.

PS It's too bad they had a great sub, the only place in Chicago that put a sharp provolone slice on, instead of the domestic bland.

You might check out the Riv, Graziano's, panozzo's or several other places discussed here that have a real deli counter, with sharp prov, and can slap it on for you.

Sharp is standard on the Italian at Panozzo's and at least one well-documented great sandwich has this ingredient, standard:

Maybe there were some things worth ordering here, but I had their Italian sub once, and it was a total joke. Hardly any meat on it, bland as hell, and they wanted something like 12 or 13 bucks for it. Judging from most of the Yelp/Eater feedback, most people in the neighborhood are glad they're gone.

Sharp is indeed standard on Panozzo's, but I don't really find it that sharp. I actually didn't realize it was sharp until I asked someone at the counter. They make some damn fine sandwiches, but I find that Bari Foods has by far the sharpest provolone. On the menu it is labeled as "Aged Provolone" and it is a little extra, but I think it is by far the best example I've found around Chicago.

They did not charge "12 or 13 bucks" and the yelp reviews are nowhere as negative as you are saying. It is an un-truth that "most people in the neighborhood are glad they're gone".

I don't mean to get into it with you, and I'm also not into using Yelp as a barometer for whether an establishment is worth visiting or not, but when you have a 3-star average w/ 43 user reviews, and a whopping 55 that are "filtered", I'd say you're doing something wrong. Tons of complaints about overpriced, mediocre food and lousy service were legion with that place.

Being closed, let's let it rest there unless news arrives.

Here is an active sub sandwich comparison thread:

that space has meant death for every tenant for as long as I can remember and I lived down the street for 15+ years until July. People looking to open ANY retail shop there should avoid it like the plague.

The landlord should put a doctor or dentist in there. No retail is going to survive.

The landlord has to be charging a ton for it. Antico is basically right across the street on Leavitt and seems to be doing fine (probably also helps that it's quite good and has a nice patio for summer), but that spot where Sacco Bruno was has now seen I think 4 tenants in the 6 years I've lived in the neighborhood with some decent stretches of being unoccupied in there. Definitely something that belongs in the Locations of the Damned thread.
